Qualifications:

· Minimum Grade 12 education

· Must be able to follow verbal and written instruction with minimal direction.

· Must hold and maintain a current Province of Nova scotia Driver’s License.

· Must demonstrate the ability and skills required to perform the duties of this position.

· Must have general knowledge of plumbing, heating, electrical systems and basic carpentry skills.

· Must have previous experience in maintenance services with experience in a long- term care setting preferred.

· Must be able to lift 30- 50 pounds.

· Must be able to work independently and cooperatively with others.

· Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families and community members, volunteers and facility staff.

· Having a Class 5 license and the ability to drive a small bus is an asset





Duties and Responsibilities:

· Performs established maintenance procedures.

· Inventory control functions

· Emergency repairs

· Scheduled preventative maintenance assignments.

· Contributes to the efficient operation of the department within a multi-disciplinary, residential-focused team.

· Performs repair work to the building, grounds, and equipment (which may be of electrical, plumbing, mechanical or carpentry in nature)

Conditions and Hours of Work

· Physically demanding, involving heavy lifting, and moving

· Day shifts 8:00am – 4:00pm

· Must be willing to work holidays, and weekends.

· Must be available for before and after hour emergencies.

Rate of Pay: As per Union Contract (CUPE 2648)
