This role involves overseeing the day-to-day mechanical service delivery across a large higher education estate in Portsmouth. Working closely with the Account Manager, Electrical Field Manager and Technical Service Managers, you will manage a small team of directly employed engineers and coordinate specialist subcontractors to deliver planned, reactive, remedial and quoted works., - Oversee day-to-day delivery of the relevant technical service across the contract, including PPM, reactive, remedial and quoted works.
- Manage and provide technical support to directly employed engineers, ensuring work is effectively allocated, progressed and completed.
- Coordinate and manage specialist subcontractors, monitoring performance, quality, compliance and responsiveness.
- Review engineer and subcontractor findings, providing technical challenge and ensuring appropriate solutions and follow-on actions are progressed.
- Maintain oversight of open works, proactively progressing aged jobs, technical dependencies and approved works through to completion.
- Work closely with the Account Manager, Helpdesk and Scheduler to coordinate resources, access, materials and subcontractors.
- Work closely with client technical counterparts on day-to-day service delivery, technical issues, outstanding works and proposed solutions.
- Attend site, supplier and client meetings as required and maintain effective relationships with client stakeholders.
- Identify recurring faults, asset issues and opportunities to improve service delivery, reliability and value for money. Commercial, Quotations and WIP - Take ownership of progressing quotations from initial findings through technical review and client submission, ensuring they are accurate, sufficiently detailed and completed within required timescales.
- Develop and review scopes of work, challenging subcontractor solutions and costs to ensure value for money and appropriate job profitability.
- Maintain oversight of outstanding quotations and operational WIP, ensuring actions and dependencies are actively progressed through to delivery and completion.
- Support purchase order, supplier invoice and other cost queries relating to the service stream.
- Support the Account Manager with WIP, forecasting and commercial information as required. Health and Safety - Maintain a safe working workplace for employees, subcontractors, clients and building users.
- Review RAMS and ensure works are appropriately planned and undertaken in accordance with relevant safety and technical requirements.
- Undertake site inspections, compliance checks and permit-to-work activities as required.
- Monitor subcontractor H&S; performance and address or escalation concerns.
- Work with the relevant Technical Service Manager on technical compliance, safe systems of work and significant H&S; matters. People - Manage, support and develop the directly employed engineers assigned to the contract.
- Provide technical guidance and set clear expectations for quality, productivity, customer service and safe working.
- Monitor performance, undertake development discussions and identify training.
- Relevant mechanical building services qualification or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of planned and reactive mechanical building services maintenance.
- Experience of supervising or managing engineers and specialist subcontractors.
- Ability to diagnose technical issues, develop practical solutions and review technical scopes and quotations.
- Good commercial awareness of maintenance, remedial works and subcontractor costs.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements, including reviewing RAMS and managing contractors safely onsite.
- Sound understanding of FM hard service delivery and customer service.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive actions through to completion.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, engineers and specialist subcontractors.
- IT literate, with the ability to use CAFM and other business systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to satisfy required DBS checks. Desirable - Experience within higher education, public sector or similarly complex estates.
- Recognised Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience managing operational WIP and progressing technical quotations.
