We're seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join a project team supporting the engineering and construction of surface water management systems for a major mining operation. This is a multi-disciplinary role spanning civil, mechanical, piping, and instrumentation engineering — bridging the gap between design and construction.
You'll coordinate with engineering consultants, perform in office engineering calculations, generate field sketches and redlines, and provide technical support to construction crews to keep the project on schedule and in compliance with design specs.
Contract Details
- (Ideal) Schedule: 5 days on / 2 days off — initially remote/hybrid, transitioning to full-time on-site during construction
- Rate: Up to $130/hour, commensurate with experience
- Travel & Accommodations: Provided; per diem or lodging arrangement TBD based on candidate location and project phase
Key Responsibilities
- Support consultant coordination, RFI processes, and design conflict resolution
- Generate field sketches, redlines, and as-built drawings for piping and mechanical installations
- Perform site-specific calculations: pipe hydraulics,
pressure drops, pump sizing, structural support adequacy
- Interpret blueprints, P&IDs;, isometrics, and vendor manuals for field crews
- Monitor erosion/sediment control compliance with environmental permits
- Oversee QC activities: pressure testing, equipment alignment, torquing verification
- Review vendor data sheets and MTRs for spec compliance
- Track and report progress against schedule, flagging bottlenecks
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 3–6 years in field/construction engineering or mechanical/piping design, ideally in mining, oil & gas, or water treatment
- AutoCAD proficiency; hydraulic modeling software (AFT Fathom, Pipe-Flo) a plus
- Familiarity with ASME B31.3, HDPE/geosynthetics, pond liner QC a strong asset
- EIT or P.Eng/PE highly desirable
- Comfortable working outdoors in a mine construction environment with standard PPE
Coaching and mentorship available for candidates who don't have the full breadth of experience listed above.
