MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLOR – YOUTH AND ADULTS Counselling Part Time Ottawa, ON $60,000 CAD per year Position Type: Part time, FTE 0.8 (28 hours per week) Salary: $60,000 per annum Job Area: Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode SCOPE OF POSITION As a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, the successful candidate will provide crisis intervention, short-term counselling and group work for adults, youth and families within Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode. This person should have a working knowledge of community mental health approaches, including an understanding of the interactive relationship of the personal and the social determinants of health. The successful candidate must commit to work within Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode Community Resource Centre’s model of Community Development.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES - Responds to the mental health needs of adults, youth and seniors.

- Provides assessment, crisis intervention, short-term counselling as well as information and referral services to NROCRC’s clients and service providers
- Provides support to individuals and groups from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Provides Intake support when necessary.
- Communicates, consults, and collaborates with community partners and stakeholders
- Advocates on behalf of clients
- Develops and facilitates community workshops, seminars, and information sessions
- Conducts outreach to NROCRC’s communities
- Acts as a resource for NROCRC staff
- Maintains records of client contacts, clinical notes, and statistical data
- Provides other duties as required COMMON RESPONSIBILITIES - Works in a manner that preserves confidentiality
- Works in a way that promotes collaborative and interdisciplinary teamwork
- Respects and values the diversity of individuals and communities QUALIFICATIONS - Master of Social Work or Masters degree in Counselling
- Accreditation with a professional association (e.g., Registered Social Worker,



Registered Psychotherapist)
- Minimum three (3) years counselling experience in a social service setting, including direct front-line experience in assessment, crisis intervention, and short-term counselling for adults and youth
- Experience in a variety of counselling modalities, including therapeutic, health promotion, and psycho-educational group work
- Demonstrated awareness and expertise in culturally appropriate practices and trauma informed care
- Knowledge of city-wide community resources
- Ability to work in partnership with agencies and perform community outreach
- Demonstrated ability to practice from a strengths-based perspective
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check is a requirement
- Ability to maintain clinical records by using an electronic database
- Fluency in English is essential; French and other languages (e.g., Arabic) is an asset
- Current Emergency First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain
- Valid Class G license and access to a vehicle is an asset
