Role Description The Town of Kentville is seeking a motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious individual to join our Engineering and Public Works team as an Operator/Labourer. Reporting to the Lead Hand, this position plays an important role in maintaining and improving the Town’s infrastructure and supporting the delivery of essential municipal services that contribute to a safe and wellmaintained community year-round. The Operator/Labourer performs a wide variety of operational, construction, and maintenance activities related to municipal infrastructure, including water, wastewater, stormwater systems, roads, sidewalks, traffic services, and public facilities.
This is a hand-on position that requires operating equipment, performing physical labour, supporting emergency response activities, and working in varying weather and site conditions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC).
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in construction, maintenance, public works, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment and machinery.
- Experience using hand and power tools in construction and maintenance environments.
- Knowledge of protected work practices and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement.
- Nova Scotia Wastewater Collective Certification Level 1, or willingness to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.
- Be willing and able to work overtime, participate in on-call rotations, and respond to emergency situations as operationally required.
- Be capable of performing physically demanding duties, including working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Successful completion of a Valid Criminal Record Check (CRC).

Rate of pay begins at $32.69 per hour ($0.25 less per hour as probationary rate). Hours of work are 40 per week, Monday to Friday.
