The pipelayer is responsible for the installation, testing and commissioning of water, storm and sanitary pipe and underground raceway. The pipelayer will work under the direct supervision of a foreman.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
· Attend morning jobsite meeting to discuss day’s activities and safety concerns
· Ensure you have a thorough understanding of the project specifications and drawings
· Perform all installations with exceptional workmanship
· Relay as-built info to foreman
· Cut and bevel pipe ends
· Pressure test all water and sewer mains
· Flush and chlorinate water mains
· Coordinate video inspection of pipe
· Mandrell all conduit/ducting
· Assemble and install shoring or trench cages in excavations as required
· Organize necessary tools for the next days’ work at the end of the previous shift
· Assist superintendent or foreman in setting up lasers or levels, and establishing layout for the day
· Ensure that all equipment that is not functioning properly is reported on your Daily Pre Work Inspection
· Ensure all small tools are properly maintained and stored
· Inspect the site at the end of the shift to make sure tools are properly stored
· Ensure that all open excavations, manholes, and equipment are adequately delineated and barricaded
· Attend meetings with superintendent and foreman on upcoming tasks and advise if materials for the tasks are on site or need to be ordered
· Provide direction and training to labourers
· Attend and participate in all tailgate meetings, topics, concerns
· Ensure that yourself or any other worker entering a confined space has been properly trained and understand the procedures for entering a confined space
· Check with supervisors, before work commences, that BC One Call has been notified, and all other utilities in the area have been contacted, and all services have been located
· Abide by the requirements containing in the Stone Pacific Contracting Ltd. safety manual
Necessary Skills & Qualifications:
· Have a thorough understanding of Stone Pacific Contracting Ltd. safety manual
· Have a valid driver’s license and be able to safely operate company vehicles
· Have a good understanding on how to read plans and specifications
· Have a thorough knowledge of pipe types and fittings
· Skilled in working with concrete; be able to mix grout and bench manholes
· Have a thorough understanding of mandrelling ducts
· Have a thorough understanding of hydrostatic testing of pressure pipe
· Have a thorough understanding of air testing pipe
· Have a thorough understanding of aggregate properties and compaction methods
· Have a thorough understanding of flushing and chlorinating water systems
· Have a positive understanding of elevations and grades for installing pipe, road construction and site grading
· Strong understanding of basic math skills
· Have a good understanding in shoring requirements for excavations
· Be able to direct workers, and provide leadership to the crew
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Be able to write clearly and legibly
· Ability to work well with others
Education and Experience:
The following education or experience are required for this position:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a related field is required
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5, preferably with an Endorsement 20 or equivalent and a satisfactory driver’s abstract
- WHMIS Training
- Class UR FSR (Hydro Raceway) Certification
- Fusion Welding of HDPE Piping Systems Ticket
- Water Distribution, Level 1
The following education or experience will be considered an asset:
- Occupation First Aid - Level 1 or equivalent
Physical Demands: The physical demands for this job are as follows:
