The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Product Engineer to join a technical engineering team focused on the design, development, and continuous improvement of manufactured products. This role will manage technical projects from concept through production, while supporting new product design, re-engineering initiatives, cost reduction, and performance improvements.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, customers, and suppliers while providing technical guidance and ensuring designs meet quality, manufacturing, and industry standards.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Manage technical projects from concept through production, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Design and develop current products and re-engineer existing products to improve cost, performance, and functionality.
- Perform engineering analysis, calculations, layouts, and detailed design work.
- Prepare accurate detail and assembly drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, in accordance with drafting standards.
- Maintain and improve existing product designs, including identifying opportunities for cost reduction and performance improvements.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials, specifications, drawings, and other technical design documentation.
- Review and verify engineering work completed by other members of the technical team.
- Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, production teams, and other internal departments.
- Evaluate product fit, form, function, and safety requirements.
- Develop cost estimates for manufactured products.
- Work with various manufacturing processes, including closed-die forging, upsetting, stamping, machining, welding, heat treatment, galvanizing, and other finishing processes.
- Apply knowledge of material properties,
selection, and mechanical design principles.
- Support mechanical testing activities and work within an ISO 9001 quality system.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineering team members.
- Participate in resolving production issues and collaborate with plant supervisors and staff as required.
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
- 3-5 years of progressive engineering design experience, ideally with supervisory or technical leadership responsibilities in a highly precise manufacturing environment.
- College diploma or university degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in mechanical product design, material selection, and stress analysis.
- Experience with Power Transmission & Distribution line hardware or a related industry is considered an asset.
- Proven experience managing technical projects from concept through production.
- Strong ability to interpret technical specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing documentation.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD for detailed engineering and assembly drawings.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and their capabilities and limitations.
- Experience with mechanical testing equipment and methods.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality system.
- Experience developing cost estimates for manufactured products.
- Strong understanding of product fit, form, function, and safety assessments.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a technical team and provide guidance to junior staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- An active Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license in Ontario is considered an asset.
Salary Range: $ 85,000 - $ 100,000
