About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in product ownership, business analysis, requirements management, and Agile software delivery.
The Product Owner will act as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring that product requirements are clearly defined, prioritized, and delivered effectively. This role requires strong communication, stakeholder management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring items are clearly defined, prioritized, and aligned with business objectives.
- Gather, analyze, and translate business needs into user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Define and communicate the product vision, objectives, priorities, and roadmap to stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Prioritize features, enhancements, defects, and technical work based on business value, user needs, dependencies, and organizational priorities.
- Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Developers, QA Engineers, UX/UI Designers, Architects, Scrum Masters, and other technical teams.
- Act as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and the Agile development team.
- Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Review and accept completed user stories to ensure solutions meet defined requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Work with stakeholders to identify business processes, pain points, user needs, and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate requirements discussions, workshops, demonstrations, and stakeholder meetings.
- Make timely decisions regarding requirements, priorities, scope,
and product functionality.
- Manage competing stakeholder priorities and communicate decisions, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs effectively.
- Ensure the development team has sufficient information and clarification to successfully deliver backlog items.
- Coordinate with technical teams to understand solution constraints, dependencies, risks, and implementation considerations.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and coordinate feedback from business users and stakeholders.
- Monitor product performance, user feedback, and business outcomes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Maintain product documentation, requirements, process flows, release information, and other supporting documentation.
- Support release planning and communicate upcoming features and changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure product solutions align with organizational policies, accessibility standards, security requirements, and business objectives.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Product Ownership, Business Analysis, Product Management, or a similar role within software development environments.
- Strong experience working as a Product Owner within Agile/Scrum teams.
- Demonstrated experience managing and prioritizing product backlogs.
- Strong experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria, business requirements, and functional requirements.
- Excellent understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile delivery practices.
- Experience working with enterprise web applications, digital services, or large-scale software solutions.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear and actionable requirements for development teams.
- Experience with Agile project management and collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
- Experience facilitating requirements workshops, backlog refinement sessions, sprint reviews, and stakeholder discussions.
- Strong understanding of UAT, defect management, release planning, and change management processes.
- Ability to analyze business processes and recommend improvements to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including Developers, QA, UX/UI, Architects, Business Analysts, and Scrum Masters.
- Product Owner or Agile certifications such as CSPO, PSPO, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, or equivalent are considered an asset.
- Experience working with government or public sector organizations is considered an asset.
Job Type: Fixed term contract Pay: $55.00-$70.00 per hour
