Description

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor provides visible, hands-on leadership for daily manufacturing operations for the Afternoon shift (Mon. - Thurs; 3:15pm - 1:45am).

The role is accountable for safe execution of the production plan, employee supervision, quality, productivity, schedule attainment and disciplined shop-floor practices. The Supervisor coordinates people, materials, equipment and priorities across functions to deliver customer requirements on time and in full while building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

- Maintain a protected workplace, enforce health and safety requirements, complete required inspections and follow-up actions, address hazards promptly, and ensure incidents and near misses are reported and investigated in accordance with company procedures.
- Lead, coach, train and motivate hourly employees; set clear daily expectations; monitor performance and conduct; recognise positive contributions and address attendance, behaviour or performance concerns promptly and consistently in partnership with Human Resources.
- Translate production schedule into daily work assignments and priorities. Coordinate labour, materials, equipment and workflow to achieve schedule attainment, throughout and on-time, in-full completion.
- Ensure work is completed to approved drawings, specifications, work instructions and quality requirements. Contain non-conforming work, support root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- Maintain an active presence on the shop floor, verify adherence to standard work, escalate constraints early, and coordinate recovery plans for labour, material, equipment or quality disruptions.




- Use production data and employee feedback to identify waste, improve flow, reduce cycle time and cost, and strengthen workplace organisation through Lean and value analysis/value engineering practices.
- Complete time and attendance records, labour reporting, employee documentation, shift handovers, production reports and other required records accurately and on time.
- Conduct start-of-shift communication, confirm priorities and constraints, assign work and verify that employees understand safety, quality and delivery expectations.
- Ensure employees are trained, qualified and authorized for assigned tasks, tools and equipment; maintain training follow-up and reinforce standard work.
- Enforce plant rules, personal protective equipment requirements, housekeeping standards and restrictions relating to mobile phones, earbuds and leaving assigned work areas.
- Evaluate cycle times, capacity, staffing and production constraints and provide fact-based recommendations to the Production Manager.
- Coordinate with Maintenance on equipment issues and preventive or corrective work, balancing risk, quality, uptime and production priorities.
- Lead or participate in problem-solving and continuous-improvement activities; assign actions, establish owners and due dates, and verify that improvements are sustained.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Directly supervises unionized hourly production employees and applies the collective agreement and company policies consistently within the scope of the role.
- Participate in employee selection, onboarding, training, performance management, investigations and progressive discipline in collaboration with the Production Manager and Human Resources.
- Demonstrated front-line leadership in a manufacturing environment, with the confidence to set expectations and hold employees accountable respectfully and consistently.
- Strong working knowledge of production supervision, safety, quality, workflow, labour planning and continuous improvement.
- Ability to interpret production schedules, drawings, work instructions, specifications and performance data.




- Clear written and verbal communication, effective shift handover and strong cross-functional collaboration.
- Comfortable using ERP, time-and-attendance and standard Microsoft 365 applications; SAP experience is an asset.
- Flexibility to support shift coverage, production priorities, employee matters or urgent operating issues.

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Skilled Trades or related discipline (preferred.)
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- 5+ years progressive manufacturing experience, including front-line leadership or supervisory responsibility; experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
- Lean manufacturing, continuous-improvement or structured problem-solving experience is an asset.
- Current First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain and maintain certification as required by the company.
