Project Manager, Interiors and Special Projects - Permanent - 4301
About the Opportunity
Most Project Managers measure a career in years. The good ones measure it in projects closed out. The gap between those two shows up around year four, when one operator has three full cycles behind them and the other is two-thirds of the way through a single large ICI build.
We're recruiting for a national general contractor's Calgary interiors and special projects group. This is the team that builds inside occupied and semi-occupied buildings: fit-outs, renovations, conversions, building additions, retail and institutional programs where the client keeps operating around you. Small to medium in value, high in volume. A PM here carries several at once and takes multiple projects from award to close-out inside a single year.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Run several interiors, additions, and small-to-medium builds concurrently, not one job for three years
- Own each one start to finish: buyout, schedule, cost, client relationship, close-out
- Build in live buildings, where tenant coordination, phasing, and after-hours sequencing are the real difficulty
- Short reporting line into local leadership, no regional layer in between
- Direct client contact on every job; you're the relationship, not a name on the org chart
About You The successful candidate will have the following:
- Three to five plus years running interiors, fit-out, additions, or small-to-medium ICI work as a PM, or as a PC ready for the seat
- You've built in occupied space and know the difference between a phasing plan on paper and one a tenant will actually live with
- You've tied new structure into an existing building and dealt with what the drawings didn't show
- You can price a change and defend it in the same meeting
- You hold four or five jobs in your head without losing the detail on any of them
- You like the shorter cycle: new client, new building, new problem, several times a year
About the Job A few reasons operators take this seat over a single large build:
- Reps. Volume is how a PM gets sharp, and this is where the volume is
- A portfolio instead of a post; you're not parked on one site until it tops out
- More client types and building types in a year than a single large project gives you in five
- A path built on delivered projects rather than tenure
- The mix is yours to set: stay in special projects and keep the reps coming, or use it as the faster route into large-project work when you're ready for that scale. The group runs both, and which one you build toward is your call
If you're on a big job right now and quietly aware you haven't closed anything out since 2023, this is the correction. If the eventual move is toward bigger work rather than more of this, that's still a door this seat opens, not one it closes.
