Your Opportunity:

The Psychologist II will provide advanced level assessment & treatment to an array of clients of significant complexity, those with significantly violent general violence, domestic and sexual violence offenses. Conducting cognitive functioning, personality, vocational & behavioural assessments & therapies as appropriate to individuals deemed Not Criminally Responsible &/or charged and convicted under the Criminal Code of Canada. The position provides advanced clinical services within the context of a forensic community outpatient mental health clinic. Consultation to the inter-professional team and may include supervision of doctoral level psychology residents, masters level interns, provisionally registered psychologists and program team members as assigned. Provides leadership in and facilitation of program development, service planning, staff development/education, quality improvement initiatives, evaluation and/or research activities as identified. Assessment & treatment may also include court mandated and court requested forensic psychological services (Ie. preparation of reports to the courts/legal system & CCRB for the purposes of legal disposition determination, risk/recidivism management and/or pre-trial fitness (in consort with psychiatry), forensic treatment and consultation services to a justice involved target population. The Psychologist will work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting demonstrating a commitment to collaborative practice, respect for diversity, and act as a liaison and program representative of forensic services. Work will be performed with a high degree of independence within broad guidelines and in accordance with program and professional standards. Service delivery may on occasion be provided within the forensic community care continuum as required. Reliable vehicle in proper working condition also required.





Description:

As a Psychologist II, you will provide advanced clinical services (including psychological assessment, diagnosis and/or intervention), consultation and education to the interprofessional team and patients/families, and/or provides clinical leadership and coordination in an assigned program area. This is an advanced level psychology position that will allow you to work with or within teams to provide and inform services for patients with complex and multi-dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental and/or instrumental needs. You will consult, collaborate, and enact initiatives to ensure that practices are evidence based and in alignment with psychology standards of practice and code of ethics, as well as policy, legislation and regulations. You will be expected to lead, facilitate and/or participate in program, policy, and procedure development, service planning, staff development, quality improvement and evaluation, and/or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s). You may provide supervision to doctoral level psychology residents, master's level interns, provisional psychologists, psychometrists and other team members.

Required Qualifications: Completion of doctoral degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from a Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) program. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of an approved CPA/APA Doctoral internship in Forensic Psychology and/or a concentration focus/emphasis in Mental Health/Forensic Mental Health. Demonstrated clinical competencies in Forensic Psychology / Experience as a Forensic Psychologist (may include clinical residency) within the last 3 years. Knowledge and/or use of current actuarial risk assessment tools and structured qualified judgement tools related to forensic mental health. (i.e. HCR-20 V3, STATIC-99R, STABLE, SARA-V3).

Experience writing clinical assessment reports for the purpose of use in legal criminal court/criminal code review board proceedings. Therapeutic skill set working with an offender population. Solid interpersonal communication skills, interviewing techniques and writing skills; solid working knowledge of mental health/mental illness.

Training and experience in group therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other evidence-based modalities as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year experience as a Registered Psychologist in a mental health setting within the last 5 years or completed Doctoral internship in Forensic Psychology. Community or inpatient Forensic experience preferred.
