Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance / Quality Control Specialist to support our operations. This person will inspect incoming materials, work-in-progress, and finished products to ensure they meet company specifications, customer requirements, and applicable safety and quality standards.
The QA/QC Specialist will work closely with operations, production, purchasing, and management to identify quality concerns, investigate their causes, and help prevent them from recurring. The successful candidate will be comfortable conducting inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, reviewing product labels and Nutrition Facts tables, and communicating clearly when a product or process does not meet requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming ingredients, materials, and packaging to confirm they meet approved specifications.
- Perform in-process inspections to identify defects, inconsistencies, or deviations from established procedures.
- Conduct final product inspections and approve, hold, or reject products according to company requirements.
- Verify that finished products use the correct packaging, labels, lot codes, and date codes.
- Review product labels and Nutrition Facts tables for accuracy and compliance with applicable CFIA requirements.
- Check ingredient lists, allergen declarations, bilingual information, net quantities, product claims, and other required label information.
- Compare label information against approved recipes, product specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Complete inspection reports, checklists, testing records, and other quality documentation accurately and on time.
- Identify and clearly label non-conforming materials or products to prevent their unintended use or distribution.
- Create and maintain non-conformance reports and assist with corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate customer complaints, returned products, product defects, labelling errors, and recurring quality concerns.
- Perform root-cause analysis and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Verify that employees follow approved work instructions, specifications, food-safety requirements, and quality procedures.
- Monitor product measurements, appearance, packaging, labelling, and traceability requirements.
- Use appropriate measuring and testing equipment and ensure equipment remains properly calibrated.
- Review quality and operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with internal quality audits and prepare documentation for customer, supplier, or regulatory audits.
- Work with suppliers and purchasing personnel to resolve ingredient, material, packaging, or labelling concerns.
- Help create, review, and update standard operating procedures, inspection criteria, forms, and quality-control plans.
- Train or support employees on quality requirements, inspection methods, documentation, and defect prevention.
- Participate in continuous-improvement projects intended to reduce defects, rework, waste, returns, and customer complaints.
- Escalate responsible quality, food-safety, or regulatory concerns to management promptly.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and clean inspection area.
- Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in quality assurance, quality control, inspection, food production, or a related environment is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify defects accurately and consistently.
- Ability to read and follow product specifications, recipes, work instructions, and inspection procedures.
- Experience reviewing food labels and Nutrition Facts tables is an asset.
- Familiarity with CFIA food-labelling requirements, including ingredient lists, allergens, bilingual labelling, and traceability, is an asset.
- Experience using measuring or testing equipment relevant to the company’s products.
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze quality and operational data.
- Familiarity with non-conformance reporting, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, document control, and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of food-safety and quality systems such as HACCP, GMP, Preventive Control Plans, or other applicable programs is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with employees and management.
- Comfortable addressing quality concerns professionally and stopping or holding work when requirements are not met.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, or similar programs.
- A college diploma or bachelor’s degree in quality assurance, food science, nutrition, engineering, or a related field is an asset. Relevant hands-on experience may be accepted instead.

Pay: $45,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
