Regional Risk Manager, Canada – Asset, Safety and Compliance

At VCA Canada, caring for our patients begins with protecting the people, assets, hospitals, and communities that care for them. As our Regional Risk Manager, you will be an early and critical role in shaping our national approach to risk, safety, compliance, and asset protection.

Supporting more than 150 VCA Canada Animal Hospitals across the country, including Vet et Nous locations in Quebec, you will bridge national strategy with hospital-floor reality. Through strong partnerships with hospital leaders and by leveraging the knowledge and expertise of local teams, you will translate multi-provincial regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and risk and asset-protection priorities into practical solutions that strengthen consistency while respecting the unique needs of each hospital.

Key Responsibilities

- Partner with Canadian Operations and Medical Operations leadership as the primary field-based Value Protection, Safety and Compliance resource, translating enterprise standards and Canadian regulatory requirements into practical hospital priorities and consistent execution.
- Conduct risk-based hospital assessments and operational reviews covering occupational health and safety, controlled substances, hazardous materials, fire and life safety, emergency preparedness, physical security, cash and asset controls, and other priority risks.
- Drive corrective action and risk mitigation by establishing clear ownership, monitoring progress, validating sustainable closure, and escalating material, recurring, or overdue gaps.
- Lead or support investigations involving controlled-substance diversion, fraud, theft, misconduct, associate safety, regulatory concerns, asset loss, and significant operational events.
- Protect and strengthen Asset Protection capabilities across Canada,



including theft and fraud prevention, physical security, loss prevention, cash and inventory controls, threat awareness, and protection of company assets.
- Build strong partnerships with hospital and field leaders, leveraging local knowledge and expertise to identify risks, develop practical solutions, and embed sustainable improvements. Collaborate with Operations, Medical Operations, P&O;, Legal, Compliance, Safety, Insurance, Finance, and other subject-matter teams as required.
- Lead field support for significant safety events, emergencies, threats, regulatory matters, and business disruptions, including response coordination, documentation, recovery, and after-action improvements.
- Use risk, incident, assessment, and investigation data to identify trends and emerging risks, recommend improvements, and support initiatives that strengthen safety, compliance, asset protection.

Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant skilled certifications such as CRSP, CHSC, CFE, CPP, ARM, CRM, or CSP are strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in loss prevention, occupational health and safety, compliance, risk management, investigations, security, or asset protection within decentralized, multi-location environments. Experience in healthcare, veterinary, pharmacy, or retail service organizations is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian regulatory landscape, with the ability to navigate and apply jurisdictional differences across provinces and territories.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and build scalable, practical tools, programs, processes, and training that are simple to implement and embraced by operational teams. Proven ability to leverage the knowledge, experience, and relationships of local hospital teams to develop solutions that work in practice, not just on paper.
- High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, coach hospital leaders,



and influence executive stakeholders without direct line authority. Skilled at partnering with local teams to identify risks, understand operational realities, and drive practical and sustainable improvements.
- Valid driver’s licence and flexibility to travel approximately 40–50% across Canada to support hospital teams and program implementation.
- Professional proficiency in French is considered an asset.
