Job Summary Dalhousie University is a member of the U15 research-intensive universities in Canada, administering $270M annually in research and innovation funding. The Research Grants Facilitator (RGF) in the Office of Research Services (ORS) is responsible for facilitating research applications to and awards from external funding agencies and promoting external research funding opportunities to the research community. The RGF maintains expert knowledge and understanding of research funding agency programs and policies and Dalhousie’s research policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides expert advice and support to researchers in the preparation, review, submission, and tracking of competitive research grant applications, including individual, multi‑investigator, and multi‑institutional proposals.
- Reviews and approves research grant applications and research agreements for institutional compliance and signature by the Vice‑President, Research & Innovation (or delegate).
- Advises researchers and academic leaders on funding opportunities, granting agency requirements, collaboration responsibilities, and research agreement processes.
- Facilitates and coordinates team-oriented research agreements and proposals in consultation with internal partners, including Legal and Research Accounting, ensuring timelines, budgets,
and deliverables are met.
- Leads strategic outreach and capacity‑building initiatives, including workshops, consultations, and mentoring, to strengthen grant development, writing, and funding success.
- Supports research administration and compliance by ensuring adherence to university and funder policies, maintaining internal research funding records, and preparing reports and analyses for senior leadership.
Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree with a minimum of five years’ experience in research administration or related environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience working in a service unit that provides expert advice and support.
- Tact, sensitivity and diplomacy, and well-developed interpersonal skills are essential for dealing with researchers and various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in deadline-driven, fast-paced, high-volume environment and manage multiple tasks while paying attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying policy information to ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, and regulations.
- Proficient technological skills in PowerPoint and other multimedia, word processing, financial spreadsheets, e-mail, database management, and electronic file transfer.
