The Opportunity
Ethier Sand & Gravel Limited is seeking a motivated, dynamic team player to fill the position of Sales & Materials Manager, based in Sudbury, Ontario. This role leads the sales, business development, and reporting activity for our aggregate operations, owns material sales and inventory management across our pits and stockpiles, and manages the commercial fleet and logistics from start to finish. This is a full-time, permanent position offering competitive wages, pension, and a comprehensive benefits package.
This position reports directly to the Vice-President.
Your Day-to-Day
- Drive sales and business development for the Sudbury operation, including client relationships, current market opportunities, and quotes, RFQs, and tenders
- Maintain strong working relationships with municipal, provincial, and private-sector clients
- Manage budgets, cost control, and profitability across sales and materials operations
- Prepare and present regular sales, production, and financial reports to the Vice-President
- Manage the sale of aggregate products (crushed stone, sand, gravel, topsoil, and related materials), including pricing, quoting, and order processing
- Track stockpile inventory by product type, coordinating with production and crushing crews to ensure adequate supply
- Conduct or coordinate stockpile surveys and inventory counts, reconciling records against material on hand
- Forecast material demand to inform production, crushing, and screening schedules
- Coordinate with the scale house to ensure accurate ticketing, invoicing, and tracking of material sold and shipped
- Liaise with MNRF and other regulatory bodies on extraction volumes and pit licensing as they relate to material sales and inventory
- Manage incoming and outgoing freight using transportation management systems, from order intake through final delivery
- Coordinate and optimize haul routes and delivery schedules for timely, cost-effective material movement
- Manage remote scale software and ticketing systems for materials
- Coordinate fleet maintenance scheduling with the Equipment & Fleet Manager(s) to ensure equipment uptime and availability
- Oversee fleet compliance, including safety inspections, driver hours of service, and vehicle licensing and permits.
- Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when required to meet operational and project demands
- Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional out-of-town assignments and overnight stays
- Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
You Are a Good Fit If You Have
Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the construction, mining / aggregates, or transportation / logistics industries
- Prior experience in material sales, inventory management, or aggregate / quarry operations
- Valid G class Driver’s License
Considered an Asset:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction technology, or a related field
- Certified Technician (CTech) designation or other Civil Engineering designation
Skills & Abilities:
- High level of motivation and an ability to be a dynamic team player who builds strong working relationships across sales, operations, and dispatch
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Proficient with computer programs including dispatch, inventory, and reporting software
- Strong integrity, sound business judgment,
and the ability to demonstrate initiative
- Exceptional communication skills to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders including employees, clients, and senior management
- Successfully passed comprehensive pre-employment third party testing requirements (drug and alcohol testing and a Criminal Background Check (CPIC) and any other requirements they impose on contractors)
- Familiar with aspects of maintenance of crushing equipment
- Strong ability to manage and adapt to multiple projects and tasks with efficient prioritization
