TekStaff's Client has a current vacancy for " Senior Data & BI Developer / Architect (Power BI, MS Fabric, Databricks)”
This is a 8 month contract located in Toronto, ON/ Hybrid ( 3 days in-office (Potentially will increase to 4 in future).
Please note - This is a 7.5 hour work day.

*Please note that all contractors are subject to a possible Holiday Leave program schedule, set by the client.
Key Accountabilities
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines using Power BI Premium, MS Fabric, and/or Databricks.
- Develop scalable semantic models, star schemas, and tabular models for enterprise analytics.
- Build high-quality Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports aligned with business requirements and visual best practices.
- Implement data quality controls, lineage documentation, metadata standards, and observability metrics.
- Collaborate with business partners, data engineers, risk analysts, and architecture teams to define requirements and deliver analytical solutions.
• Support environment configuration, workspace governance, performance tuning, and capacity optimization in Power BI Premium / Fabric capacities.
- Contribute to the modernization of BBCR’s next-generation data architecture.
Must have skills:
- 7+ years in Data Engineering, BI Development, or Data/BI Architecture roles.
- Hands-on technical experience with:
o 7 years of experience with Power BI (DAX, M language, data modeling, Premium capacities ). – Expert level o 7 years of experience with SQL (advanced querying, performance tuning, stored procedures). – Expert level o 5 years of experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Engineering, Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, KQL). – Expert level o 3 years of experience with Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake, notebooks, workflow orchestration).
o Expert level experience with Data Lake file formats: Parquet, Delta, ORC, DuckDB
•Strong understanding of:
o Dimensional modeling (Kimball), semantic modeling, and data governance.
o Lakehouse and modern data architecture patterns.
o CI/CD for analytics, version control (Git), and DevOps pipelines.
- Experience working in enterprise environments with structured SDLC processes.
Nice to have:
1. Experience in Risk Analytics, Banking, or Credit Risk domains.
2. Familiarity with PowerShell, Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate), Python.
3. Architect and refine Lakehouse and Medallion-based data structures using Delta/Parquet/DuckDB formats.
4. Knowledge of Security, Privacy, and Compliance standards in financial institutions.

- Strong communication with ability to translate technical details for business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently in a quick-paced, multi-project environment.
- Problem solver mindset with focus on quality, accuracy, and analytical rigor.
- Collaborative team player who contributes to architectural discussions and recommendations.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree level or above education, ideally in Computer science, Engineering, business, financial or technology
- Certified with MS Fabrics, Data Bricks and Power BI is nice to have.
Candidate Review & Selection
Interview format: 2 rounds of interviews
- 1 round with over MS team Video – 30 mins. With HM and Leadership.
- 2nd round - 30mins – In-Person Interview with HM and Senior Team member
- Technical and Behavioural questions based on previous experience.
