Kanas Corporation is looking for experienced Skilled General Labourers to join our team on a large commercial renovation project in downtown Calgary.
This is not an entry-level general labour position. We are looking for someone who already has hands-on construction experience and is comfortable using power tools and performing demolition, assisting carpenters and trades, and completing assigned work safely and efficiently.
Typical Tasks:
- Perform selective demolition of drywall, steel studs, ceilings, flooring, piping, masonry, and other existing construction
- Confirm the demolition scope and limits with the Site Foreman or Superintendent before starting work
- Identify what is to remain versus what is to be removed before beginning demolition
- Stop and ask for clarification if the scope is unclear or site conditions are different from what was expected
- Safely operate power tools including reciprocating saws, grinders, circular saws, drills, SDS/rotary hammers, and demolition hammers
- Use hand tools safely and effectively
- Take care when working around existing electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire alarm, sprinkler, and other building systems
- Consider how demolition or cutting may affect surrounding materials, supports, or building systems before proceeding
- Assist carpenters and other trades with construction activities
- Install temporary protection, hoarding, barriers, and other temporary site measures
- Move, organize,
and distribute construction materials
- Load and unload deliveries
- Remove demolition debris and maintain designated disposal areas
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
- Inspect tools and equipment before use
- Complete FLRAs and follow site-specific protected work procedures
- Identify and report hazards, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions
- Perform other construction and site duties as assigned
Requirements
- Previous commercial construction or demolition experience
- Experience using construction power tools is required
- Good understanding of selective demolition and basic construction practices
- Able to follow demolition markings, instructions, and defined scope of work
- Must understand that demolition work is not to begin until the scope has been confirmed
- Able to work independently after receiving clear direction
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work
- Able to safely lift and move construction materials and debris
- Able to recognize hazards and changing site conditions
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to work effectively as part of a crew
- CSTS certificate
- Valid Fall Protection training is an asset
- Additional construction or equipment tickets are considered an asset
