Position Summary
Reporting to the Operations Manager, snow removal labourers play a critical role in maintaining safe and accessible client properties during various winter conditions and events. This position involves operating snow removal equipment, manually shoveling sidewalks and entryways, and applying de-icing materials. The role requires physical endurance, attention to detail, and the ability to work in challenging weather conditions, often for extended hours.
Key Responsibilities
· Operate sidewalk plows and salting equipment to clear snow and ice from designated areas.
· Manually shovel sidewalks, doorways, and other pedestrian zones as required.
· Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
· Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snow events as directed.
· Apply salt and other de-icing materials in accordance with site requirements.
· Accurately document work performed, materials used, and hours worked.
· Communicate effectively with the Operations Manager and team regarding site conditions and progress.
· Report equipment issues or safety concerns in a timely manner.
· Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OHSA standards.
· Be available to work flexible and extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Qualifications
· Valid Class “G” Driver’s License with a clean driving abstract - required
· Ability to work adaptable and extended hours during snow events.
· Demonstrated understanding of winter safety procedures and equipment handling.
· Reliable transportation to and from work sites.
· Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour in cold, snowy conditions.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Working Conditions
· Outdoor work in cold, snowy, and icy conditions.
· On-call schedule during snow events; extended hours may be required.
· Use of PPE including gloves, boots, and weather-appropriate warm-weather and safety gear.
· Exposure to cold, noise, vibration, and slippery surfaces.
Performance Indicators
· Timeliness and effectiveness of snow and ice removal.
· Compliance with safety standards and procedures.
· Accuracy of documentation and reporting.
· Responsiveness to weather events and operational directives.
· Team collaboration and communication.
