Norlease is building the first verified rental listing platform for North Bay and Northern Ontario. Rental listing sites today let anyone post anything, which means renters waste time chasing fake landlords, scam listings, and properties that don't exist. Norlease fixes this at the infrastructure level: every landlord goes through phone verification and manual ID review before a listing ever goes live. No income filtering, no credit checks, free for everyone.

The platform is live in production today, not a prototype or a pitch deck. We're pushing toward a September launch across Northern Ontario, and this is a full-time, permanent seat for someone who wants to grow with the product long-term, not a short-term contract gig.

What you'd actually be working on

You'd be joining a real, live system with real users, and working across the stack as needed. The core platform (listing creation, geospatial search, photo pipelines, phone and ID verification, admin tooling) is built and shipping changes weekly. Day to day, that means:

- Building new features end to end: database schema, API route, and UI, without needing everything handed to you pre-scoped
- Working on both the systems that keep the platform reliable (search performance, background jobs, verification pipelines) and the parts users actually touch (listing flows, map search, mobile photo capture)
- Helping extend the platform beyond North Bay into new cities across Northern Ontario, which means thinking about how features scale, not just whether they work for one city
- Contributing to the next layer of the product: notifications, listing lifecycle automation, and early monetization features
- Catching and fixing real production issues, not theoretical ones, since bugs here have a visible impact on actual renters and landlords trying to find or list a place

This is a generalist role by design. If you like living entirely in one layer of the stack and never touching the rest, this probably isn't the right fit.



If you like understanding a system end to end and being trusted to make real calls across it, it is.

- Next.js 15 (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
- Drizzle ORM, Neon Postgres with PostGIS for geospatial search
- Clerk for auth and role-based access
- Cloudflare R2 for storage, with an image processing pipeline
- MapLibre GL JS + Protomaps for interactive maps
- Telnyx for SMS, Resend for transactional email
- Background job processing (pg-boss), self-hosted OSRM for routing
- Hetzner + Coolify for deployment, Docker-based infrastructure

What we're looking for

- 2-3+ years of professional software development experience, ideally with a contemporary TypeScript/React or Node.js stack
- Comfortable moving between frontend and backend work as the task requires, rather than staying strictly in a lane
- Solid fundamentals: SQL, API design, state management, and enough judgment to know when something needs to be done properly versus when a quick fix is fine
- A track record of shipping real features, not just completing tickets, we care about outcomes, not activity
- Strong communication skills, since this is a remote-first team and most collaboration happens async and in writing
- Bonus: experience with geospatial data, image processing, or scaling a product from one market into several

What you won't be doing Sitting in a narrow lane waiting for tickets to be assigned in perfect detail. You'll have real ownership over what you build, and real say in how the product evolves as it grows into new markets.
