Position Highlights

This position is for a Specialist Engineer within the Transmission and Distribution System Operation (TDSO) Long Term

Planning Team. BC Hydro is expanding and upgrading its power system to support British Columbia's growing demand for clean energy. In this role, you will lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams working on critical projects across BC Hydro's transmission system.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys working on a wide variety of projects, each with its own unique scope, assets, stakeholders, risks, and technical challenges. While the position is based at the FVO office in

Langley, you will have opportunities to travel to BC Hydro facilities throughout British Columbia.

What you'll do

- Plan and manage TDSO user input and engagement requirements, including scope, schedule, and cost, for medium and

large capital projects with significant complexity, risk, and visibility. Projects may be delivered entirely within BC Hydro, entirely by external organizations, or through a combination of both approaches. Typical projects include new transmission substations and lines, upgrades to existing facilities, and associated protection, control, and communication systems.
- Establish project plans, review strategies, schedules, resource requirements, objectives, and priorities. Coordinate and

oversee the development of reports, technical specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure technical support is provided during scoping, construction,

commissioning, and project closeout, and that technical issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships across the organization. Apply a strong understanding of BC Hydro's

business requirements and operating environment to ensure projects support TDSO objectives and are delivered with minimal impact on transmission system reliability and operations.




- Review and provide recommendations on complex technical and project matters, including preparing presentations and

providing updates to TDSO senior management.
- Mentor, coach, and support project team members to help resolve technical and project challenges. Provide leadership

and guidance within the department and across other groups.
- Monitor and manage project schedules, key milestones, and deliverables to keep projects on track and within established

timelines working with the TDSO Long Term Planning PM and functional Manager.
- Track and align project tasks and activities with overall project staging and outage plans to minimize operational

disruptions.
- Serve as a central point of coordination and facilitate communication and collaboration among project teams, TDSO

departments, including RTS, OPS, and RTO, field crews, and external partners.
- Identify, document, and promptly escalate project scope gaps, risks, and operational issues to the TDSO Long Term

Planning Team Lead.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with

internal standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Review engineering and technical documents for completeness, compliance, and consistency with operating orders and

company policies.
- Support project meetings by preparing agendas, tracking action items, and following up on deliverables to support timely

resolution.
- Assist with resource allocation planning to optimize workforce deployment and project efficiency.
- Compile, review, and maintain current lists of operating order changes. Collaborate closely with TDSO Engineering

Support to ensure operating orders are updated accurately and on time.
- Liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution.

What you bring

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Other engineering disciplines may be considered in combination

with relevant experience on large and complex infrastructure projects.
- Eligibility for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- 10+ years of experience preferably within an electric utility environment; with a minimum 3 years’ experience as a people

leader in an Operations environment.
- Consideration for this position will be extended to applicants with equivalent or lesser qualifications with a minimum of 15

years’ experience in the operations, maintenance or management of Utility power systems
- Minimum of 4 years of experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design on medium to large projects with

significant technical complexity and stakeholder involvement.



Candidates with less experience may be considered at a corresponding position level.
- Experience leading and supervising technical teams.
- Knowledge of integrated electrical systems, including transmission, sub-transmission, and/or distribution operations is an

asset.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead in high-pressure, time-sensitive operational

environments.
- Ability to quickly assess complex issues and determine effective courses of action.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to thrive in a rapid-paced, dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and a safety-first culture.
- Experience across the complete project lifecycle, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction, testing,

and commissioning, is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of transmission system operations and the interactions, priorities, and constraints required to

successfully deliver multidisciplinary projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
- Proven leadership capabilities with strengths in communication, change management, coaching, and team engagement.
- Good understanding of project management principles and practices. Knowledge of BC Hydro project delivery processes

and engineering design practices is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
