ABOUT FERN KIDS

Fern Kids builds children's furniture in Moorefield, Ontario. We design it, cut it on our CNC machines, sand it, finish it and ship it - all out of our shop on McGivern Street. It ends up in daycares, preschools, schools and homes across Canada and the US.

We're a small crew, so everyone here touches the product. If you take pride in work that leaves the building looking right, you'll fit.

THE ROLE

We're looking for someone to run our finishing bay in the afternoons and evenings - 4:00pm to 9:00pm, three or four days a week. You'll be spraying explicit coats and stains on children's furniture, prepping parts, and keeping the booth clean.

This shift suits someone already working days who wants steady evening hours, a student, or anyone who'd rather work afternoons than mornings.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Spray clear coats and stains on furniture parts using HVLP equipment
- Prepare and sand parts before and throughout the finishing process
- Don the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Lift wood pieces with care
- Track drying and cure times to reduce downtime
- Keep the booth clean and dust-free - this is the single biggest thing that separates a valuable finish from a bad one
- Mix finishes, track usage, and monitor inventory quantities
- Clean guns, lines and filters at the end of your shift




- Assess individual pieces against internal quality standards and escalate as required

WHAT YOU NEED
- A steady hand and patience - the finish is the last thing the customer sees
- Comfortable wearing a respirator and following WHMIS and shop safety rules
- Attention to detail for imperfections
- Able to work on your own - you'll often be the one closing up for the night
- Your own transportation to Moorefield

NICE TO HAVE
- Spray finishing experience of any kind - wood, automotive or industrial
- Familiarity with waterborne or low-VOC finishes
- WHMIS certification (we'll get you trained if you don't have it)

Experience is preferred but not required. If you're careful, clean and reliable, we'll teach you the gun.

DETAILS

- Part-time, 4:00pm - 9:00pm, 3-4 days per week (roughly 15-20 hours)
- $18.50 - $23.00 per hour, depending on experience
- In person at 76 McGivern St, Moorefield, ON
- Start date: as soon as we find the right person
