Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Automated Test Equipment is a senior engineering role focused on designing and developing automated test systems used for Tesla's power electronics products. This is a full time role located in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The position focuses on automated test equipment design and development. The role supports products used in vehicles, energy storage systems, charging solutions and robotics applications. The position involves domestic and international travel to support equipment development and deployment activities.
Responsibilities
Design automated test equipment and develop detailed CAD models. Create pneumatic diagrams and technical design documentation. Verify designs using structural and thermal FEA and CFD methods. Develop equipment concepts while balancing product, process, cost and timeline requirements. Identify and implement equipment performance improvements. Improve system reliability and ease of assembly. Review system limitations and recommend engineering solutions. Support equipment building, debugging and validation activities. Assist with equipment duplication and production release efforts. Conduct testing and validation of installed machinery. Perform site acceptance testing and factory acceptance testing of equipment. Support deployment activities and equipment commissioning.
Requirements A minimum of 6 years of work background as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechatronics Strong knowledge of automation systems, machine design, robotics and product development is required. Work background transitioning products and processes from prototype stages to production environments is required. Strong knowledge of solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics and material selection is required. Work background with prototyping, testing methods, machining and fabrication processes is required.
Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots and relays is required. Can work effectively with engineering teams from multiple disciplines. Skilled in SolidWorks, PDM and Ansys or similar CAD and CAE software.
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and work background is required. Strong problem solving, organizational and technical review skills are required. Can travel domestically and internationally when required.
