NATURE OF WORK This is skilled work in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of wastewater treatment plant equipment and related equipment.

Work involves responsibility for ensuring the effective mechanical operation of motors,



pumps, blowers, piping, and related apparatus at the water and wastewater treatment plants. Work is performed according to a regular, recurring schedule, with special assignments received from a superior. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees.

Supervision is received from an administrative superior with the work reviewed through inspections and conferences for compliance with operating routines.

Essential Functions The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive :

- Conducts regular inspections of plant equipment; inspects piping, valves, pumps, and motors for proper operation; maintains inspection records; repairs wastewater treatment plant equipment as directed.
- Oils equipment and lubricates bearings, repack valves and pumps.
- Replace defective valves, motors, pumps, and controls.
- Performs general maintenance and repair on electrical components.
- Fabricates and makes repairs using welding and cutting on various metals.
- Pulls, cleans and repairs several types of pumps, blowers, and boilers; replaces shafts, bearings, seals, and impellers.
- Performs preventive maintenance on motors and other various wastewater equipment.
- Services and repairs automotive equipment, HVAC equipment, and ATVs; maintains and repairs buildings, fences, and roofs.
- Assists in snow removal in winter including snow blower on skid steer, front end plow truck, front end loader, truck mounted salt dog, push snow blower, salting building walkways, and shoveling sidewalks.




- Fills in as a plant operator when necessary.
- Perform other work which is consistent with the essential functions of the job.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of boilers, blowers, pumps, and electrical controls involved in the operation of wastewater plants.
- Knowledge of pipefitting, welding, and elementary mechanics.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to read, interpret, blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and to make required repairs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Skill in the use of manual tools and equipment required by the work.
- Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment to meet NDPES permit requirements.

Minimum Qualifications Graduation (diploma) from an accredited high school or equivalent GED supplemented by vocational or community college level courses in the mechanical trades; some experience in wastewater treatment plant operation; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills.

Necessary Special Requirements

- Possession of a Class I wastewater treatment facility operator’s certificate as issued by the NE Dept. of Water, Environment, and Energy or ability to obtain within one (1) year after appointment.
- Employee must possess and maintain a current and valid Nebraska Driver’s License.
- When operating equipment that falls under the Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) status, the employee is required to possess and maintain the proper license and endorsements as a mandatory condition of employment.
