Position Summary The Sidewalk Labourer- Lead is a hands-on seasonal labourer position responsible for snow and ice removal at assigned commercial properties. This position leads and coordinates the activities of our seasonal labourer group who have responsibility for winter control and maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform sidewalk snow and ice removal duties alongside other labourers, including clearing sidewalks, building entrances, and other assigned areas.
· Apply salt or other de-icing materials as directed.
· Drive company trucks and tow trailers to transport labourers, tools, supplies, and equipment, as assigned.
· Load, secure, transport, and unload tools, supplies, and equipment safely.
· Complete required pre- and post-trip inspections and promptly report vehicle, trailer, or equipment defects.
· Follow assigned routes, site priorities, and instructions provided by the Operations Manager or designated supervisor.
· Use required PPE and follow all company safety procedures and applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
· Report hazards, incidents, damage, equipment concerns, and service issues promptly.
· Perform other labourer duties assigned to meet changing operational needs.
Qualifications
· Valid Restricted Class A (AR) driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract — required.
· Demonstrated experience safely driving trucks and towing trailers.
· Demonstrated experience with snow removal, grounds maintenance, landscaping, agriculture, construction, or other outdoor labour is an asset.
· Ability to follow instructions, work effectively as part of a crew, and complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
· Ability to work adaptable and extended hours on short notice during snow events.
· Physically fit and comfortable performing outdoor labour in cold, snowy, and icy conditions.
· Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.
· Access to reliable transportation to and from the work site.
Working Conditions
· Seasonal, on-call position during winter snow and ice events.
· Work may occur during early mornings, overnight hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays, sometimes for extended periods.
· Outdoor work in cold, snowy, windy, and icy conditions, with frequent entry into and exit from equipment.
· The employee must remain reachable during assigned events and be prepared to respond with limited notice.
· PPE and safety training will be provided.
Performance Indicators
· Reliable attendance and timely readiness during assigned snow events.
· Safe operation of company trucks and trailers, including completion of required inspections.
· Completion of assigned labour tasks to expected safety, accessibility, and quality standards.
· Compliance with company safety procedures and applicable legal requirements.
· Clear and timely communication regarding hazards, delays, vehicle or equipment concerns, incidents, and damages.
· Proper care, cleanliness, and secure transport of assigned vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment.
The base rate for this position is $20/hour, plus a $12/hour Winter premium. We are looking for qualified, motivated, and dedicated employees to join our team!!
