Implements quality programs for children 18 months to 5 years based on the emergent curriculum, in keeping with the YWCA mission, vision and values while adhering to the YWCA policies and procedures and quality standards, as well as the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act.Key ResponsibilitiesCreates a stimulating and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, ensuring the safety of children enrolled in the program through direct supervision, and attendance protocolsPlans and implements innovative weekly programs that are age appropriate and meet individual and group needs, according to YWCA philosophyImplements curriculum to meet the needs, interests and talents of all childrenParticipates and engages in all activities with the childrenUpdates, develops and ensures positive, professional communication with parents/families, community partners, outside agencies, co-workers and support staff, an on an ongoing basisSupports the supervision of students and volunteers as requiredSupports staff and classrooms as needed (e.G. staff breaks, programming time,



etc.)Administers authorized medications and creams in accordance with policyEnsures classroom environment is kept clean and neat, including all activity and program areas, and common spaces, including toy washing and sanitizingWorks with limited pieces of child and family confidential data, with duty to reportCaptures and monitors the children’s development goals and progress through weekly documentationEnsures that written records are accurately documented and maintained including attendance records, symptoms of ill health, daily classroom logs, etcPrepares reports and statistics for Supervisor as requiredComplies with the Child Care Early Years Act and YWCA PoliciesUnderstands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standardsProvides recommendations to strengthen existing policies and/or processesNurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnershipsSupports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and valuesParticipates in mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetingsMust be able to supervise large groups of children during onsite and offsite excursions such as field trips and swimmingPerform other duties as requiredWorking ConditionsFull Time: Works a 37.5-hour work week; Part Time: Works a 15-29-hour work week; Relief: Works a 0-14-hour work weekAbility to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.),



bending and stoopingMust be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed toheat,humidity or coldQualificationsCompletion of 2 years’ college in Early Childhood Education or equivalentRegistered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE); maintains registration as required by the YWCA and provincial standardsExperience in a licensed child care setting is an assetMust provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own costMust provide a TB test, proof of Tetanus (within 10 years) and proof of MMR immunizationsAbility to bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to workMust have current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate or willingness to obtain at own costBilingual English/French or other languages an assetMust have skills in using MS Office programs including Excel and WordAs part of YWCA Hamilton’s commitment to Access and Equity, we strive to represent the diverse communities that we serve.
