OverviewWe are seeking a Full-time Pharmacy Assistant to work in a Professional and community oriented Pharmacy in Nanaimo.ResponsibilitiesAssist the Pharmacist/Owner in the preparation of prescriptions:Receiving prescriptions from patients:Following provincial legal/regulatory conditions, the assistant helps in assessing the prescription for completeness (Name; Address; birthday; allergies; prescription third party information; special requests; prescriber; generic/brand).Performing computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist:Data entry; price check; patient information entry/update; competent interpretation and processing of written prescriptions including Latin abbreviations, drug name recognition, dosage calculations; refills; report generation; patient profile checks.Filling prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist/Owner:Select appropriate products as per prescription; perform accuracy checks, including visual and DIN checks as well as profile checks; select and count/measure and prepare appropriate products; label and organize prescriptions for the Pharmacist/Owner to check; gain approvals for verbal refills where authorized; facilitate all aspects of pharmacists cognitive services.Operating the cash register:Process prescription pickups and OTC purchases; perform any othercash related duties assigned by the Pharmacist/Owner.Assist the Pharmacist/Owner in the management of dispensary and OTC inventories:Ordering and receiving inventory:Order both OTC and prescription drugs before designated vendor cut-off times; check received orders for early expiry dates and discrepancies; investigate and solve any discrepancies; put away drug orders; check and pull expired medications monthly; label near expirymedications as instructed; process returns for expired products as instructed.Maintaining pharmacy supplies:Keep appropriate stock levels of supplies including prescription vials, labels,
dispensing bottles by ordering from vendors or advising the Pharmacist/Owner.Ensure OTC merchandise is signed and priced:Properly sign and price all OTC merchandise.Perform general housekeeping, clerical organization, and administrative tasks:Keep the dispensary clean, organized, and neat.Maintain a clean/safe work environment (e.G., dishes, garbage).Clean packaging & dispensing equipment, computer, fax machine, etc.File prescriptions, invoices, reports, correspondence, and memos.Complete any administrative support functions assigned by the Pharmacist/Owner.Provide a wonderful experience to pharmacy customers:Answer customer calls promptly.Assist customers in finding merchandise and advise the Pharmacist/Owner if they wish to speak to the pharmacist.Retrieve customer prescriptions from the pickup shelves.Show a high sense of urgency with all assignments.Qualifications, Skills, ExperiencePharmacy Assistant Certificate and/or pharmacy experience is desired for this full-time position. Additional qualifications include:Possession of a minimum high school diploma.Demonstrated proficiency in mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; calibration of equipment used in the prescription filling process; reconstitution ofpowdered and other forms of medications.Basic reading/writing skills: understand written or printed matter and record information; read prescriptions (doctor's handwriting).Communication skills: effectively communicate to maximize accuracy in the delivery of patient care.Job DetailsJob Types: Full time, PermanentPay: $17.50-$20.98 per hourBenefitsDental careDisability insuranceExtended health careFlexible scheduleLife insuranceOn-site parkingStore discountVision careAdditional InformationAbility to commute/relocate to Nanaimo, BC V9S 5L6: must reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).Education: Secondary School (required).Experience: Pharmacy Assistant: 1 year (required).Location: Nanaimo, BC V9S 5L6 (required).Work Location: In person.#J-18808-Ljbffr
