OverviewIntermediate Underwriter – Residential and Real Estate Secured Lending (Bilingual French/English)Location: Toronto, ONWork Schedule: 37.5 hours/week, hybrid onboarding with in-office once per week for the first five weeksHourly Rate: $40-45/hour, incorporated rateWe are seeking experienced Intermediate Underwriters to join a dynamic Credit Adjudication team focused on Residential Mortgages and Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL). The team plays a central role in reviewing, assessing, and adjudicating mortgage and real estate lending applications, ensuring risk is managed effectively, and that all lending decisions comply with established guidelines and authority limits.This role provides the opportunity to work within a high-volume, cross-functional environment, collaborating with business partners, insurers, appraisers, and solicitors, while delivering accurate, high-quality credit assessments. The role is ideal for professionals who have direct underwriting experience, decision-making authority, and a strong analytical and risk management skillset.ResponsibilitiesReview and assess residential mortgage and real estate secured lending applications in a thorough and timely manner.Exercise sound underwriting judgment by approving, declining, or recommending applications within established lending authority.Analyze supporting documentation, including income verification, employment stability, down payments, property appraisals, offers to purchase,
and other relevant materials.Apply risk mitigation strategies and document exceptions clearly and professionally.Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to address questions or clarify information.Manage high-volume workloads while maintaining a high level of quality, accuracy, and adherence to turnaround timelines.Explain and justify underwriting decisions with clarity, including the rationale for approvals, declines, or exceptions.Qualifications and ExperienceThe ideal candidate will possess:3–4 years of hands-on residential mortgage underwriting experience, with exposure to real estate secured lending.Bilingual proficiency in French and English, both written and verbal.Proven experience exercising decision-making authority in underwriting, including approving, declining, and recommending applications.Ability to evaluate and document exceptions, as well as assess credit risk and mitigation strategies.Familiarity with Canadian lending rules and regulations.Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills to handle multiple applications in a high-volume environment.Experience working with technology-driven systems and adaptability to evolving processes.Additional AssetsCompletion of broker or underwriting coursesProficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and OutlookUniversity degree in finance, business, or related fieldFamiliarity with reporting, credit risk documentation,
