It’s known for an unparalleled outdoor lifestyle, a vibrant arts community, and four seasons of recreational adventures to explore.Job SummaryThe Recreation Facilities Maintenance Worker I provides operational, custodial and routine maintenance support for recreation facilities and related public spaces. The position helps keep facilities clean, protected, functional and ready for daily programs, public use and scheduled activities. The work includes facility upkeep, basic repairs, equipment operation, set‑up support and monitoring of public use in accordance with established procedures. Performs related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsEducation and TrainingHigh School (Grade 12)Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's LicenseBuilding Service Worker 1Refrigeration Safety Awareness CertificateA.E.D. TrainingAbility to obtain the following training within the trial period: W.H.M.I.S. certificate; Confined Space Entry Training; S.C.B.A. Training;Chlorine Handling Training; Arena Icemaker Certificate; Pool Operator 1.ExperienceOne (1) year of related experience in custodial, facility maintenance, arena,
pool or public recreation facility operations.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of custodial methods, basic building maintenance practices and recreation facility operations.Ability to carry out routine janitorial, maintenance and set‑up duties with care and consistency.Ability to operate tools, equipment and vehicles safely and in accordance with established procedures.Clear judgment when responding to service requests, public concerns and routine operational issues.Solid communication skills for interaction with staff, contractors and public.Ability to coordinate assigned tasks, shift priorities and complete work within required timelines.Serves the public in a respectful and professional manner while supporting a positive user experience.Willing to follow direction, work independently and contribute to a cooperative team environment.Working knowledge of safe work practices, hazard awareness, incident response and security procedures relevant to recreation facilities.Ability to maintain accurate records, logs and basic work documentation related to assigned duties.Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and working under a range of indoor and outdoor conditions.Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.Demonstrates adaptability in learning new processes and operational requirements as service needs change.Pay RateThis is a union position with the current pay rate of $34.27 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.Hours of WorkMonday through Sunday, 24‑hour continuous operation schedule, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.Equal Opportunity EmployerThe City of Powell River is an equal opportunity employer.#J-18808-Ljbffr
