This role provides an opportunity to be a trained intern for future roles within the department.ResponsibilitiesConvert customer (internal and/or external) requirements into conceptual designs and prepare associated documentation by performing operational analyses,
simulations and technical trade‑off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features.Create new concepts or modify existing concepts to fulfill customer requirements.Document detailed network designs implementing the requirements.Deploy solutions in the lab and support testing activities.Participate in technical reviews of component designs, install and design activities, vendor selection and qualification, and other related areas.Provide support for issues in the field.Prepare and support bids and proposals, including customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, architecture design, simulation, trade‑off of key features, estimation, etc.Present technical design and reports to customers and/or other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non‑ambiguous terms.Interface and build working relationships with Software, Hardware and testing groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in‑house and field test issues.Accurately report work progress and estimates to complete the assigned work.QualificationsStudent or recent graduate pursuing or holding a degree in System, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar Bachelor's/Master's.Knowledge of network principles and technologies: Ethernet/IP‑based networking (switching/routing protocols), redundancy & high‑availability technologies, network/IT services, MPLS & VPN technologies, RF networking (802.11, LTE).Knowledge/Experience in Programming/Scripting (Python, C, C++, JavaScript, Perl, Shell scripting).Fluent in English – strong written and oral communication skills.Able to work full time (40 hours) for the agreed work term with a minimum of 2 days (16 hours) in the Toronto office.Preferred Skills and ExperienceRail signalling, CBTC, and knowledge of specification‑driven network (as it applies to computer systems with both hardware & software operation) are assets.Equal Opportunity EmploymentAt Hitachi Rail, there is a place for everyone.
