Looking for meaningful work where you can build your resume, develop real-world communication skills, and support causes that matter?

We're growing our Hamilton fundraising team and looking for outgoing, reliable people to represent major nonprofit organizations working on environmental protection, healthcare, humanitarian relief, social justice, animal welfare, education, and other important causes.

You’ll work face-to-face with members of the public, explain nonprofit campaigns, build genuine connections, and inspire people to support that work by becoming monthly donors.

This can be a great fit for students, recent graduates, performers, creatives, hospitality workers, advocates, and other strong communicators looking for flexible work that offers more than just a paycheque.

It can also be a valuable first step into the nonprofit, advocacy, fundraising, communications, or leadership sectors .

No fundraising experience is required. We provide paid training, coaching, and opportunities to grow.

$19/hour guaranteed starting wage

$20/hour after successfully completing your evaluation period

Opportunity to progress to up to $24/hour , based on experience, performance, development, and ongoing pay reviews

Regular opportunities for pay reviews

Performance-based bonuses and incentives

Paid training

Full time and part-time opportunities available

Full-time is preferred, but we are happy to accommodate strong part-time candidates with reliable availability

Benefits eligibility after 6 months of full-time employment

Opportunities to develop into training, leadership, and other roles within Public Outreach

Your hourly wage is guaranteed - this is not commission-only work.

Public Outreach strongly believes in developing and promoting people from within. Many of our leaders started in the same frontline fundraising position and built their careers with us.

For some people, fundraising is a great resume builder or stepping stone into the nonprofit sector. For others, it becomes a long-term career working alongside people who care deeply about advocacy, social change, and meaningful action.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

Our Hamilton fundraisers work face-to-face with members of the public in neighbourhoods and community spaces throughout the area.

You’ll spend your day:

Starting conversations with people you haven't met before

Learning about the nonprofit campaign you're representing

Explaining important social, humanitarian, environmental, or community issues in an engaging way

Listening,

answering questions, and building genuine rapport

Asking people directly to support the organization through a recurring monthly donation

Working alongside a supportive fundraising team

Practicing your approach and applying regular coaching

Working toward clear fundraising goals

Each conversation is an opportunity to turn someone's interest in an issue into meaningful, long-term support for nonprofit work.

Meaningful Experience You Can Take With You

Fundraising develops skills that translate into many different careers.

You’ll gain practical experience in:

Public speaking

Storytelling

Advocacy

Community outreach

Relationship building

Handling objections

Resilience

Teamwork

Leadership

These skills can be especially valuable for students or recent graduates interested in communications, marketing, political science, social sciences, nonprofit management, public policy, social justice, environmental studies, community organizing, or advocacy .

They’re also highly transferable for actors, musicians, comedians, writers, dancers, and other creatives who are comfortable performing, improvising, reading a room, telling stories, and connecting with new people.

The Causes You’ll Support

Depending on the nonprofit campaign you’re assigned to, your work may support areas such as:

Human rights and social justice

Humanitarian aid and emergency relief

Communities affected by global crises and natural disasters

Animal welfare

Education

Other important local and global causes

You don't need previous nonprofit or advocacy experience.

You do need to be genuinely interested in learning about these issues and comfortable having thoughtful conversations about why they matter.

This is a Goal-Based Job

We want candidates to understand what fundraising is really like before joining the team.

This is an active, public-facing role where you’ll spend much of your day speaking with new people and working toward fundraising targets.

Some people will be excited to talk to you.

Some will say no.

Some won't stop at all.

Successful fundraisers learn how to stay positive, adjust their approach, apply feedback, and keep going.

Your hourly wage is guaranteed, but performance still matters .

Our nonprofit partners rely on us to build the long-term donor support that makes their work possible. You’ll receive training, coaching, and support, but you’ll also be expected to work toward clear goals, remain reliable, improve over time,

and contribute to the team’s results.

If you enjoy challenging yourself, getting better at something, and seeing measurable progress, you may really enjoy fundraising.

Schedule

We have a preference for full time candidates , but part-time opportunities are also available.

We’re especially interested in people who can provide consistent, reliable availability and commit to the shifts they select.

Flexible scheduling can make this role a good option for people balancing:

University or college

Auditions, performances, or creative projects

Other professional commitments

Building experience for a future career

Because this is a team-based fundraising role, reliability is important. We’re looking for people who can commit to their schedule and show up ready to contribute.

Who Tends to Thrive Here

You may be a strong fit if you:

Enjoy talking with new people

Communicate clearly, confidently, and with personality

Have strong English-speaking and interpersonal skills

Care about nonprofit, humanitarian, environmental, or social issues

Are comfortable approaching members of the public

Can handle rejection without losing your motivation

Are open to coaching and feedback

Like having measurable goals to work toward

Are dependable and consistent

Enjoy working as part of a team

Are comfortable with active, outdoor work

Can reliably commute throughout Hamilton for fundraising shifts

Are at least 18 years old

Are legally authorized to work in Canada

Experience in fundraising, hospitality, restaurants, retail, customer service, theatre, performance, sales, advocacy, volunteering, activism, community outreach, or other public-facing work can translate especially well to fundraising.

But experience isn't required.

We’re much more interested in your communication skills, reliability, resilience, curiosity, and willingness to learn.

Build Your Resume - Or Build a Career

Maybe you’re looking for meaningful work while you’re in school.

Maybe you want a flexible job that works alongside your creative career.

Maybe you’re trying to get your first real experience in nonprofit work, advocacy, communications, or leadership.

Or maybe you’re looking for an organization where you can grow long-term.

All of those paths can start here.

If you’re outgoing, dependable, motivated by meaningful work, and interested in using your communication skills to support important nonprofit causes, we’d love to meet you.
