Maintenance Mechanic - Grounds Keeper is responsiblefor performing maintenance within the facility, routineand on-demand services on grounds and non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.).The
Maintenance Mechanic - Grounds Keeper
isresponsible for performing work in accordance with established BGIS processes / practices, within client-based contractual requirements and for complyingwith internal and external requirements; includingbut not limited toenvironmental, health and safety and fire protection.
At this position level:
Maintains facility grounds and non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.)
No trades certification/license required.Demonstrates an interest in pursuing a trades certificationor license, an asset
Certified Horticulturists or Landscape Technicians will be given preference, however previous experience is mandatory
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Performs work in accordance toestablished policy, processes and practices
Complies with all internal and external requirements includingbutnot limited to environmental, health and safety and fire protection
Performs regular facility, grounds and building fabric maintenance and inspections
Provides observations about facility, grounds andnon-technical component conditions and deficiencies, and provides suggestions for enhancements and repair
Responds to routine and on-demand service requests for a variety of role-related requirements
Performs maintenance within thefacility, primarily on (but not limited to); Parking Levels, Roads and Grounds and Terraces
Records event rectification data within BGIS’ work order system.Ensures work completed meets quality,
contract response and all other requirements
Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status ofmaintenance work within servicemaintenance management database.Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
Assists in the development andimplementation of a Landscape / Roads and Groundspreventative maintenance program.
Ensures that deficiencies areidentified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintained
Participates in and assists with facility-related projects, not necessarily focused on the grounds
Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliancewith corporate andlegislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements
Maintains all assigned tools andarranges for repair and replacement where required
Assists in enhancingcustomer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services are delivered
Complete all other on-demand or ad hoc duties as assigned
Work requirements
Must be able and willing to workshifts, be available for on-call / standby and emergency call-outs as they arise
Must be willing to wear personalprotective equipment
Must be able to tolerate and perform in all seasonal conditions, along with the ability to do so over extended periods
Must be able to competently operate various role-related tools and equipment (deck mower, line trimmer, etc…)
Position is within Healthcare sector. Incumbent must be comfortable within a hospital setting
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 3 – 5 years of Grounds operations and maintenance work experience
High school diploma. Some trades-related training preferred. Certified Horticulturist or Landscape Technician preferred
Ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to Groundsoperations andmaintenance
Ability to maintain facility grounds, and non-technical facility components with the highest degree of care
Ability to provideobservation about facility conditions anddeficiencies, and to provide suggestionsfor enhancements
Ability to research, learn and gain greater proficiency in applying the following skill sets on-the-job – fire, life / safety, roads and grounds safety, and buildingcodes and standards
Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a secure manner
Strong client-service orientationalong with a high sense of urgency
Effectivecommunication skills forthe purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback,and clarification
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
Certified Horticulturist or Landscape Technician
Demonstrates an interest in enrolling and completing a trades certification or license
Must meet enhanced securityclearance requirements
