Environmental Health and Safety Advisor (Band Level 8)Contractual Position to March 31, 2028.Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)People and CultureDUTIESReporting to the Supervisor of Field Services, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), the EHS Advisor will deliver EHS services across Memorial's diverse environments, including teaching and learning spaces, research laboratories, marine and field operations, and administrative offices. Duties include implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety management systems; providing guidance and support to design, construction, maintenance, technical, academic, and operational units on process and operational health and safety matters. The role involves investigating EHS concerns and incidents, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions, as well as coordinating implementation where required. The EHS Advisor will provide guidance to management and Workplace Health and Safety Committees (WHSCs), support compliance with applicable legislation and standards, and contribute to continuous improvement of health and safety systems and practices. Duties also include developing and delivering health and safety education and training; conducting workplace inspections and hazard assessments; preparing detailed reports, including compliance findings and statistical analysis; and maintaining EHS information systems to track trends, performance indicators, and emerging risks. The EHS Advisor will participate in incident investigations, ensure appropriate contractor safety management practices are in place, and support safe research laboratory, teaching and learning, marine, and field-based activities across the University,
while ensuring applicable legislative and regulatory requirements are met. This position will contribute to strengthening a culture of health, safety, and well-being across the University community and perform other related duties as required. Occasional travel may be required.QUALIFICATIONSExperience (3-5 years) in occupational health and safety; completion of a diplomaor degree with a concentration in occupational health and safety is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will also have a proven ability to make decisions, interact at all levels of the organization and across businesses, and effectively and efficiently coordinate action as part of an EHS team. Effective communication, and excellent writing and public speaking skills are essential. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Professional Technologist (P.Tech) designations (or eligibility to apply) are assets.SALARY$64,361 - $87,763 per annum (Management and Qualified)CLOSING DATEJune 8, 2026 by 5:00 p.M.
