Position: Backend Engineer – Python (API & Platform Engineering)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Onsite - In-person interview in Toronto is MANDATORY)

Experience Level: 5–10+ Years (Backend Focused)

Role Overview

ITMC Systems is seeking skilled Python Backend Engineers to build and scale high-performance backend systems. This role focuses on API development, platform engineering, and distributed system design to support enterprise-grade, scalable, and secure financial platforms.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
Build and manage robust RESTful APIs and backend integrations (OpenAPI, JSON).
Drive platform engineering initiatives to ensure high reliability, observability, and scalability.
Lead and contribute to system design discussions for fault-tolerant distributed systems.
Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Optimize performance, security, and observability across core backend microservices.




Conduct code reviews and enforce software engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications
5 to 10+ years of professional backend engineering experience with Python.
Hands-on expertise in API design and development (REST, JSON, OpenAPI).
Solid foundational knowledge in system design (scalability, fault tolerance, performance).
Experience in platform engineering or developing shared backend platforms.
Solid proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern DevOps workflows.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Canadian university or college.
Robust communication and cooperative problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience within Financial Services or FinTech environments.
Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Exposure to security, compliance, and high-availability systems.
