Responsibilities Tasks

Operate heavy equipment

Read blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements

Use International Organization for Standardization (ISO) pattern joystick controls

Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks

Operate computer controlled equipment

Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment

Secure special attachments to equipment

Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment

Credentials Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses





Heavy Equipment Operator Trade Certification

Occupational Health and Safety Certificate

Experience and specialization Type of heavy equipment operated

Backhoe excavator, loader

Caterpillar (CAT) controls

John Deere controls

Bulldozer, large or small

Trencher, large or small
