The role primarily supports youth and adults with complex developmental, physical and behavioural needs. With the support of the leadership team and behavioural therapist, the SSS will implement behavioural support plans, assist with clinical assessments, collect data on programs, and provide person‑centred care as a strong advocate for the people supported within the home.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESConsistently implement Behaviour Support Plans and programming to reduce risk behaviour and support skill development.Work directly with supported individuals using supportive intervention strategies,



including crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques.Assess risk and aid people in developing plans to keep them safe.Provide person‑directed support that respects and fosters self‑determination and empowerment.Provide transportation to and from daily living activities.Assist with all activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, and participation in physical, vocational, and recreational activities.Effectively implement care plans, including proactive strategies and de‑escalation tactics.Educate and mentor people on individual choice and informed decision‑making.Promote a safe environment for people supported, staff, families and visitors.Assess client needs and exercise good judgment when implementing intrusive measures.Complete documentation timely, including incident reports, daily notes, communication logs and data collection.Collaborate with the Behavioural team on data collection, reporting and identifying new or concerning behaviours.Act as a liaison between families, people supported and leadership when necessary.Participate in writing Individual Service Plans, recording medical appointment outcomes, and consulting with the team to evaluate needs and plan services.Provide formal and informal mentorship and training to new employees, part‑time workers and volunteers.Dispense medications following procedures and manage medication per protocols.Observe and report changes in behaviours, physical abilities and activities.Communicate professionally and respectfully in writing and verbally with team members, individuals, families and community partners.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust lift up to 50 lbs.Must assume and maintain various postures for prolonged periods (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting,



standing).Must physically transport or restrain individuals to ensure safe care and welfare.Requires quick body movements in response to challenging behaviours.QUALIFICATIONSWork flexible schedule across various settings as required by the program and the people we support.Ability to lift people following proper back‑care, lifting and transferring guidelines.Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, dual diagnoses and complex behavioural needs.University or college degree/diploma in a relevant field.Valid class G driver’s licence.Current First Aid, CPR certifications and a Vulnerable Sector Check, or willingness to obtain one.CORE COMPETENCIESReliability – arrive prepared, complete tasks on time, and step in to support direct care when needed.Accountability & Compliance – follow policies, procedures and workplace regulations; identify and report incidents; act professionally and ethically.Quality & Accuracy – complete documentation with attention to detail and participate in ongoing training and development.Collaboration & Relationships – respond to residents and colleagues with empathy, professionalism and a positive attitude, fostering a supportive workplace.This job description should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards of the position.
