Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with a leading hospitality organization to hire a Facilities Manager for a six-month contract opportunity. This role will oversee daily building operations, preventative maintenance programs, contractor management, and a small facilities team supporting a busy, guest-focused property.
This position is ideal for a hands-on facilities professional who enjoys balancing leadership responsibilities with technical maintenance work. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment while ensuring building systems and operations run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily facilities operations and supervise a team of maintenance technicians
- Establish priorities and coordinate maintenance activities across guest-facing and operational areas
- Perform hands-on repairs and troubleshooting, including HVAC systems, plumbing, basic electrical, drywall, painting, doors, locks, hardware, and general building maintenance
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and recurring issues
- Monitor building systems including HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical, fire and life-safety systems, elevators, and commercial equipment
- Coordinate vendors and contractors, including obtaining quotations, scheduling work, and ensuring project completion
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues, equipment failures, leaks, alarms, and other operational emergencies
- Maintain work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports, inventory logs, and compliance documentation
- Support purchasing activities, budgeting discussions, and repair-versus-replace recommendations
- Partner with operational teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, safe work practices, and company policies
- Provide regular updates to leadership regarding facility conditions, risks, and ongoing maintenance projects
What You Need to Succeed
- 5+ years of experience in facilities management, building operations, property maintenance, hotel engineering, or a related workplace
- Previous experience leading maintenance staff, assigning work, and managing daily operations
- Strong hands-on experience with HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, boilers, and general building repairs
- Experience supporting occupied environments such as hospitality, residential, retirement, healthcare, institutional, or mixed-use facilities
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot building issues and implement practical long-term solutions
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, service providers, and maintenance projects
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technicians, leadership teams, and external stakeholders
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work-order software
- Knowledge of Ontario health and safety regulations, fire and life-safety requirements, and safe maintenance practices
- WHMIS certification, trade licenses, or facilities-related certifications are considered assets
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency support when required
- Valid Ontario driver's licence is considered an asset
