Funeral Director – St. Norbert

Alterna Cremation is looking for a licensed Funeral Director to join our team at our new St. Norbert location in Winnipeg.

About Alterna

Alterna Cremation is an independent, women-owned cremation provider serving Winnipeg and surrounding communities. We specialize in simple, direct cremation and believe families deserve straightforward information, transparent pricing, and exceptional care without the pressure or formality of a traditional funeral home.

We also own and operate our own crematorium in St. Andrews. The people entrusted to us remain in our care throughout the process, and our team is directly involved in providing that care from beginning to end.

Our new St. Norbert location is the next step in Alterna’s growth, and we’re looking for a Funeral Director who would like to be part of building that presence in south Winnipeg.

The Role

This is a full-time, on-site Funeral Director position based primarily at our St. Norbert location.

You’ll meet directly with families to make cremation arrangements, complete required documentation and authorizations, coordinate care with our crematorium team, and guide families through the cremation process.

This is not a traditional funeral-home Funeral Director position. Our focus is direct cremation. There are no casket showrooms, commissioned sales or pressure to upsell grieving families.



We want someone who is exceptionally good at caring for people, communicating clearly, staying organized and making sure every detail is handled properly.

Responsibilities include

- Meeting with families and making cremation arrangements
- Preparing and reviewing cremation documentation and authorizations
- Coordinating the care and transfer of deceased persons
- Communicating clearly and compassionately with families
- Maintaining accurate case files and records
- Coordinating with our St. Andrews crematorium and the rest of the Alterna team
- Ensuring compliance with Manitoba legislation and professional standards
- Helping establish and grow Alterna’s new St. Norbert location

Who We’re Looking For

You are a licensed Funeral Director in Manitoba, with excellent communication and organizational skills, sound judgment and strong attention to detail.

You should be comfortable working independently while remaining part of a small, collaborative team. Experience in funeral service is required. Embalming experience is welcome, but embalming is not the focus of this position.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about how people are treated, both the families who walk through our doors and the people entrusted to our care.
