Position Overview
Dundee Recycling Ltd. is seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager to drive operational performance, accountability, and continuous improvement across our Ferrous and Non-Ferrous divisions.
This role will work closely with Operations Managers and other department leaders to ensure operational processes are efficient, inventory is accurate, reporting is reliable, and customer commitments are consistently achieved. The successful candidate will use data, KPIs, process controls, and leadership to improve productivity, strengthen accountability, and support the continued growth of the business.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a strong operational mindset, analytical skills, and the ability to influence positive change throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Performance & KPI Management
· Develop, monitor, and maintain operational KPIs that support business objectives.
· Analyze performance data and identify opportunities for improvement.
· Prepare and present weekly and monthly operational reports to the President.
· Establish accountability measures for production, inventory, shipping, receiving, labour utilization, and operational efficiency.
· Lead operational reviews and support managers in achieving departmental goals.
Inventory Control & Reporting Accuracy
· Ensure inventory records accurately reflect physical inventory.
· Monitor and validate inventory transactions, adjustments, transfers, and modifications.
· Lead inventory auditing, cycle count, and reconciliation processes.
· Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
· Improve reporting accuracy and inventory visibility throughout the organization.
· Ensure all inventory-related activities are properly documented within company software systems.
Shipping & Receiving Excellence
· Monitor shipping and receiving activities to improve performance and efficiency.
· Track key metrics including shipping volumes, turnaround times, and on-time delivery.
· Identify and address process bottlenecks affecting material flow.
· Support operational planning to ensure customer orders and production deadlines are met.
· Ensure shipping and receiving practices align with company procedures and customer requirements.
Labour Productivity & Operational Efficiency
· Analyze labour utilization, throughput, and productivity trends.
· Partner with Operations Managers to maximize workforce effectiveness.
· Identify opportunities to reduce waste, downtime, and inefficiencies.
· Support workforce planning and resource allocation initiatives.
· Assist in establishing productivity standards and performance expectations.
Material Processing, Storage & Yard Operations
· Support the effective flow of materials from receipt through processing and shipment.
· Ensure material preparation, storage, and processing activities are aligned with customer requirements and production schedules.
· Improve yard organization, material tracking, and inventory visibility.
· Work collaboratively across departments to ensure material availability and operational readiness.
Process Compliance & Continuous Improvement
· Lead initiatives focused on operational excellence and process improvement.
· Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures.
· Ensure compliance with operational processes, reporting requirements, and internal controls.
· Promote a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
· Evaluate operational workflows and recommend improvements to systems and processes.
· Support implementation of new technologies, reporting tools, and operational initiatives.
Health & Safety Leadership
· Support and promote Dundee Recycling's commitment to workplace health and safety.
· Ensure operational processes are conducted in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in safety initiatives,
investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
· Promote safe work practices and operational discipline throughout all departments.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
· Minimum 5 years of Metal Recycling leadership experience
· Experience managing inventory controls, operational reporting, and performance measurement systems. Ideal candidate will have prior metal recycling experience.
· Proven track record of improving productivity and operational efficiency.
· Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills & Competencies
· Solid leadership skills.
· Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Experience developing and managing KPI scorecards and dashboards.
· Strong understanding of inventory management principles.
· Excellent organizational and project management skills.
· Ability to influence change and drive accountability across multiple departments.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
