What you’ll do:
Reporting to the Food Store Manager, the Grocery Manager will be responsible for the planning and overall operation of the Grocery Department, and for providing a strategic direction and leadership within the Grocery department.
The Grocery
Manager must effectively and efficiently lead the development and direction of the Grocery team to drive the growth of revenue and productivity, along with promoting high-quality guest satisfaction, while building relationships and ensuring the integration of strategic plans with company operations. Reporting to the Food Store Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:
Financial & Business Performance:
- Assist with completing the annual business plan in consultation with the Food Store Manager; manage and adhere to departmental budgets.
- Analyze sales, gross margin, labour, shrink, and inventory performance, implementing action plans to achieve financial targets and maximize profitability.
- Monitor inventory levels, inventory turns, and shrink to ensure effective stock management, product availability, and operational efficiency.
- Utilize sales trends,
market insights, and operational data to identify opportunities for revenue growth, operational efficiencies, and enhanced department performance.
Leadership & Team Development
- Engage and provide leadership to Grocery Team Members, including Performance Management, Training & Development, Employee Engagement, Recruitment & Retention.
- Support succession planning and the development of future leaders within the department.
- Foster a culture of accountability, recognition, continuous improvement, and employee engagement that aligns with South Country Co-op's values and strategic objectives.
Merchandising & Operations
- Ensure merchandise is adequately displayed, stocked, rotated, and merchandised according to seasonal requirements, promotional programs, and company standards.
- Ensure orders are received properly, piece counts are conducted, claims are processed, and inventory controls are maintained.
- Promote and ensure adherence to brand and merchandising standards, marketing initiatives, and image standards.
- Lead and support the implementation of new programs, technologies, processes, and operational improvements within the department.
Customer Experience & Collaboration
- Champion an exceptional guest experience by proactively addressing concerns, building customer loyalty, and ensuring high standards of service are consistently delivered.
- Collaborate with store leadership, support office teams, and other departments to execute strategic initiatives, drive operational excellence, and support organizational objectives.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the health and safety of our Team Members and guests remains our number one priority.
- Promote and ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, asset protection programs, and regulatory requirements.
Who you are:
You are looking for a career in Retail Store Operations and have:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- Minimum of 3-6 years of related experience in a retail or food store environment (Grocery department experience is preferred).
- You’re familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- You have effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on employee engagement and excellent team-building skills.
- You are physically able to reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 25 pounds regularly, and lift up to 50 pounds weekly. Ability to push or pull up to 1,350 pounds using a pallet jack.
- You are willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of our customers and members.
- You’re honest and trustworthy, are results-oriented and strive to be the best in what you do.
- You believe in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.
- Tech savy with the ability to adapt to recent technology.
- Must be willing to obtain PMEO (Power Mobile Equipment Operation) certification
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
