Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure & Data Centre Operations, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day physical operations of the ThinkOn Ottawa Data Centre. As a

Jr.

Data Centre

Technician , you will primarily support the daily operations and maintenance of the ThinkOn Ottawa Data Centre, while also contributing to Think On’s global asset management activities.

Key responsibilities will include supporting data centre operations, equipment installations and removals, inventory and asset tracking, remote hands activities, physical infrastructure maintenance, and coordination with internal teams, customers, vendors, and data centre providers.

You Will

Installation and Removal of IT equipment

Physical power down of equipment

Install and remove cabinets and racks in the data centre

Perform activities to ground cabinets according to standard processes

Dispose of all packing material and waste appropriately

Coordinate tickets to add or remove equipment from the data centre

Move equipment, racks, devices, and materials between physical locations in the same or sometimes to a different data centre

Be able to lift 70 lbs. safely and approach all installations safely and efficiently

Basic device configuration and OS loads

Install software

Configuration of Out of Band (OoB) and remote management devices (iDRAC,iLO, BMC,etc.)

Keep inventory stocked and updated and predict when new orders of equipment will be needed.

Visual inspection

Device inventory capabilities and physical comparison to inventory list

Work with other teams in different locations to maintain optimum operations within the company.

Basic troubleshooting and repair of IT equipment failures

Reset remote management connections

Validate power connections

Remote hand & eyes

Receive and ship many packages, large and small, and keep track of the contents of the packages as needed.

Be able to multitask and assist with issues as they arise, rearranging priorities as necessary

Cable installation and planning

Physical installation and removal of patch cabling, cabling components, and related material

Maintain the cabling to a professional level including the removal of retired cabling

Ensure all links and communication cables have been tested

Coordinate with Colo and third party providers for connectivity installations (cross-connects, point-to-point links, dedicated fiber(MM/SM), and copper)

Asset Management

Identify failed or failing hardware — switches, routers, line cards, optics, power supplies, fans

Open RMA cases with vendors, collect and upload the required diagnostics and logs, and track cases through to replacement

Coordinate shipping, receiving, and installation of replacement hardware with data center staff





Maintain accurate records of serial numbers, warranty and support contract coverage, and RMA status

Flag devices that fail repeatedly or are approaching end of support

Keep device inventory, record and make sure documentation current and accurate

Perform accurateand thorough site inspections and shift walk-throughs

Monitor security and environmental monitoring systems and escalations on any failure or alarm.

Validate that all equipment is in good working condition such asCRAC, UPS, Generators, and all other related equipment.

Take readings off equipment (Electrical and Cooling) and fill int the related reports

TakeCustomer calls, open and update tickets.

Follow policies and procedures related to escalations, ticketing, and change management

Participate in facilities maintenance

Interact with different organizations, customers, vendors, contractors, and building management to provide a high level of customer satisfaction

Remote hands, Tape Rotations & shipping/receiving.

Contribute to process documentation for all functions; create, update, and document existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as required

Keep track of tasks completed and keep records of any cases worked on, in the event of a report needing to be drafted

Be willing to tackle interesting and unique projects that may require inventive solutions to accomplish with the aid of your team

Maintain a tidy, professional, and unobstructed work environment, including client accessible areas such as the lobby, offices, etc

Execute and adhere to the Security Policy

Follow reporting and escalation processes for incidents

Act as a data centre resource for emergency coverage.

You Have

Desired 1-2 years physical onsite Data Centre experience supporting the Data Centre equipment and/or infrastructure (Power, Space, Cooling, Equipment and Cabling)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

College Diploma, or bachelor’s degree in computer science or Telecommunication (preferred)

Technical and mechanical knowledge of critical infrastructure (HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, DC Power Plants, etc.) found in Telecommunications facilities

Very good understanding of IT systems including but not limited to servers and network systems

Knowledge of MSOffice

Comfortable in working in a fast-paced environment

Scheduling flexibility to complete assigned migrations/projects

Applicant must be eligible to get Government of Canada security clearance of at least reliable status





Canadian Secret Level Clearance

Must have own vehicle as this role requires travel toOttawaDataCenter

Nice-to-Have:

Certifications such as CompTIA A+,CDCP,CCNA, or ITILv4Foundations

Any hands-on exposure to a data centre or colocation setting

Familiarity with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Nagios, Enviornet, or similar)

Experience using an ITSM/ticketing platform (ServiceDesk Plus, ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, Zendesk, or similar)
