The role

We are looking for a California-licensed physician to become our Medical Director and supervising physician as our current medical director steps back after many years. This is a working leadership role, not a nominal one, and it is designed to fit alongside your existing practice.

You would be the physician who leads clinically for a team of nurse practitioners (and future physician associates), keep the practice compliant, be our physician of record with payers, and serve as the physician shareholder and officer of our affiliated professional corporation, which is managed by The Doctor Health Center, Inc. under a management services agreement.

Almost all of the work happens online: tasks, documents and e-signatures in Rippling; video, calls and chat in RingCentral; charts in DrChrono. You keep your other practice. We ask for one on-site day per quarter and reliable responsiveness, not a clinic schedule.

What you'll own

- Supervision: standardized procedures for each nurse practitioner (Business & Professions Code §2836.1), furnishing supervision within California's four-NP limit, and availability for clinical questions by RingCentral chat or call during clinic hours (a shared backup arrangement is fine).
- Quality: a weekly 45-minute clinician huddle on RingCentral Video; monthly chart review (about ten charts per clinician, run as calibration, not audit); protocol and directive review with a five-business-day turnaround; peer review when needed.
- Compliance: the physician sign-offs the practice needs to operate — standardized procedures, clinical protocols, clinical-staff training attestations, and the licenses, certificates and enrollments that require a physician of record (for example, our CLIA waiver).
- Payers:



enroll and remain enrolled as our supervising and contracting physician with Medicare, Medi-Cal, Regal Medical Group and our commercial plans; participate in credentialing, recredentialing and audits.
- Growth: a clinical voice in what we build next — new service lines, our Downtown LA practice platform, and physician oversight of HUNTI's AI-assisted intake and care pathways.
- Governance: physician shareholder and officer of the professional corporation; a 30-minute monthly governance check-in with the CEO; day-to-day coordination with our compliance manager and counsel.

What this role is not
- Not a patient schedule. If you want to see patients, we offer optional paid telehealth sessions.
- Not in office daily. One on-site day per quarter, more only if you choose.
- Not exclusive. Practicing elsewhere at the same time is expected here.

Our responsiveness standard

Acknowledge RingCentral messages the same business day, sign documents within two business days, and be reachable by phone for urgent clinical questions during clinic hours (Monday–Friday). Responsiveness is the job; it is written into the agreement.

Qualifications

- Active, unrestricted California MD or DO license; DEA registration.
- Board certification in family medicine, internal medicine, or infectious disease (or equivalent primary care training).
- No exclusions or sanctions (OIG, SAM, Medi-Cal) and a clean, disclosed malpractice history.




- Room under the California supervision limits (currently supervising fewer than four NPs and four PAs elsewhere).
- Experience with LGBTQ+ health, HIV/PrEP, gender-affirming care, or sexual health strongly preferred.
- Comfortable living in modern tools — Rippling tasks, RingCentral, an EHR — and answering in them, not around them.
- Los Angeles–based preferred; California required.

Compensation and structure

- $4,500–$6,000 per month as an independent contractor for approximately 8–10 hours per week, depending on experience and the number of clinicians supervised.
- Optional telehealth sessions paid at $150–$175 per hour; on-site days paid at the same rate.
- Professional liability coverage for your work with the practice under our policy.
- Physician services agreement and shareholder agreement prepared by our counsel. This is a professional-corporation arrangement, not employment.

How we'll hire

Applications are reviewed within two business days. The process is three conversations — 20 minutes with our CEO, 30 minutes with our compliance manager and one of our clinicians, then references and license verification — followed by an offer. Target start: November 1, 2026, with a paid transition overlap with our current medical director.
