Company Description The AI Youth Council of Canada (AIYCC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for youth in Canada’s Artificial Intelligence ecosystem. We bring together young Canadians from diverse academic, technical, and professional backgrounds to collaborate on AI policy, research, education, and industry engagement. Through youth-led initiatives, policy and research output, as well as engagement with government and industry, the AI Youth Council works to empower the next generation of AI leaders and ensure Canadian youth have a meaningful role in shaping the Canada’s AI future.

Role Description The Policy Fellow is a volunteer, online role with a focus on Canada. This role involves conducting policy research on AI-related issues that affect Canadian youth, analyzing emerging legislation and regulatory developments, and preparing briefs, reports, and recommendations.

The Policy

Fellow will support the development of position papers, consultation responses, and advocacy strategies, while collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure youth perspectives are reflected in policy discussions. Regular tasks include the following:

1. Write and publish papers on AI governance, data privacy, and other AI-related topics;
2. Contributing to research/studies on the impact of AI;
3. Collaborate with all levels of government on and to influence AI policy and legislation;
4.



Engage with stakeholders;
5. Synthesize complex policy information into accessible materials;
6. Attend meetings and contribute to youth-focused policy initiatives.

Time commitment is 5-10 hours per week with some weeks being less or more depending on your assignment.

Eligibility

- Be based in Canada or have a demonstrated connection to Canada.
- Proficiency in at least one of Canada’s two official languages (English or French).
- Be a high-school/post-secondary student in Canada or a young qualified with relevant experience in AI, technology, policy, research, engineering, or a related field.
- Be able to commit the time required to actively participate in the fellowship.
- For Software Engineering Fellows, have prior programming experience and the ability to contribute to technical projects.

- Strong interest in at least one of AI policy, technology, software engineering, research, entrepreneurship, or public engagement.
- A willingness to collaborate across academic and professional disciplines.
- Initiative, reliability, and the ability to take ownership of projects.
- A desire to produce substantive work that contributes to AIYCC's policy, research, technical, or public-facing initiatives.
