The fellowship is designed as a mentored early-career research position that will provide opportunities to deepen expertise in Black queer and trans health research, mixed methods, community-engaged research, scholarly writing, and research leadership.

The Fellow will play a central role in a multi-site Canadian research project examining Black queer and trans health, healthcare experiences, structural anti-Black racism, anti-Black homophobia and transphobia, and institutional accountability within healthcare systems. Grounded in Black Health Studies, Black feminist scholarship, and Black queer and trans theory and methodologies, the research uses community-engaged and mixed-methods approaches.

Working closely with Dr. Dryden and the broader research team, the Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the intellectual, methodological, and day-to-day implementation of the research while developing their own scholarly expertise and publication record.

Key Responsibilities

- Take a central role in the day-to-day implementation and coordination of research activities across multiple Canadian sites, under the mentorship and direction of Dr. Dryden.
- Support research workplans, timelines, milestones, and coordination of interconnected study activities.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of research questions, instruments, study protocols, and research ethics materials.
- Coordinate and participate in qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management, analysis, and mixed-methods integration.
- Work collaboratively with research assistants, trainees, community-based research personnel, collaborators, and community partners.
- Support community advisory and governance processes, including community-engaged interpretation, validation, and dissemination of findings.

- Support and mentor research assistants and student trainees in research activities appropriate to the Fellow’s experience.
- Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, scholarly presentations, reports, policy and practice resources, and community-facing knowledge mobilization, with opportunities to lead manuscripts and other scholarly outputs.
- Maintain research documentation and progress tracking and work with Dr. Dryden to identify and address emerging research and implementation issues.

The fellowship will provide structured opportunities for mentorship, publication, methodological development, interdisciplinary collaboration, conference participation, and the development of an emerging program of scholarship in Black Health Studies and Black queer and trans studies. The position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the successful candidate will be expected to reside and work in Halifax for the duration of the appointment.
