As EDC continues to modernize its reporting ecosystem, this role will support the migration and modernization of legacy Cognos reports to Microsoft Power BI/Fabric. What you will be doing:
The Reporting Analyst will play a key role in assessing, rationalizing, redesigning, and rebuilding existing Cognos reporting assets on the Power BI platform. The successful candidate will work closely with business users, data teams, technology partners, and report owners to understand current-state reporting needs, document data and business logic, validate source-to-target mappings, and build Power BI reports and semantic models that meet EDC standards for governance, performance, usability, and supportability.
- Analyze existing Cognos reports, packages, queries, prompts, calculations, filters, security requirements, and usage patterns to determine migration scope and complexity.
- Work with business stakeholders to confirm reporting requirements, identify redundant or low-value reports, and recommend opportunities for consolidation, redesign, or retirement.
- Document current-state report logic, data sources, field mappings, report layouts, dependencies, and business rules.
- Design and develop Power BI reports, dashboards, paginated reports, and semantic models that align with EDC reporting standards and business needs.
- Transform and validate data using SQL, Power Query, DAX, and approved enterprise data sources, ensuring accuracy and traceability from legacy reports to new Power BI outputs.
- Support user acceptance testing, reconcile results between Cognos and Power BI, investigate variances, and document testing outcomes.
- Collaborate with data engineering, architecture, governance, and platform teams to ensure reports are secure, performant, maintainable, and aligned with EDC's target data architecture.
- Prepare report inventory updates, technical documentation, user guidance, and knowledge transfer materials for support teams and business users.
- Contribute to migration planning, backlog refinement, prioritization, status reporting, and issue/risk tracking.
- Support production deployment, post-implementation validation, and transition of migrated reports into ongoing support.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, Finance, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, analytics, developing large scale reporting/analytics in enterprise analytics platforms such as Cognos, Tableau, Power BI or similar
- Experience working with Microsoft Fabric
- Experience developing Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, or paginated reports.
- Experience analyzing, reverse engineering, or migrating reports from IBM Cognos Analytics to Power BI: Report Studio, Framework Manager, Cognos packages, prompts, and audit/usage analysis.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases, data marts, data warehouses, or enterprise data platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to gather requirements,
document business logic, validate results, and communicate findings to both technical and business audiences.
- Experience supporting report testing, reconciliation, defect resolution, and stakeholder sign-off
What will make you stand out:
- You can quickly understand complex legacy reports and translate them into modern, user-friendly analytics products.
- You balance business context with technical detail, ensuring that migrated reports are not simply replicated but improved where appropriate.
- You communicate clearly with report users, developers, architects, and platform teams, helping bridge business needs and technical implementation.
- Experience working in financial services, insurance, banking, Crown corporations, or regulated reporting environments.
- Experience with data governance, metadata documentation, lineage, report inventory management, and controlled report retirement.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery, Azure DevOps, backlog management, and iterative report development.
- Bilingualism in both official languages, English and French
