Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse (RN) to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary neonatal team in the delivery of care to neonates and their families in a level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Peter Lougheed centre (PLC) in Calgary, Alberta. PLC supports a wide variety of patients throughout the city of Calgary and surrounding areas. Neonatal nursing is a subspecialty of nursing that works with critically ill newborn infants born with a variety of issues ranging from prematurity, birth defects, infection, cardiac malformations and surgical. Caring for the youngest and smallest of patients, attention to detail and critical thinking are essential to the neonatal nurse's role. A high level of competency and proficiency is also required to work within this highly technical area. Nurses should be able to evaluate challenging situations and make quick judgments in a fast-paced setting based on the fluctuating health status of NICU patients. Additionally, they need to be able to maintain a level-head when faced with ethical and emotional situations, and care for families with an empathetic understanding of their situation.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit,
the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
NICU nursing experience within the past year or completion of the NICU orientation program. Recent (within the last year) experience with care and assessment of the newborn required in urban acute care. Final focus NICU students will be considered. Must work to full scope of practice including but not limited to IV initiation certification required. Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching, assisting with patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Must convey and demonstrate AHS' core values. NRP Certification completed. Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of post-RN NICU course preferred. More than 1 yr of recent, NICU experience preferred. Level 2 NICU experience preferred. Critical care experience preferred. Charge Nurse or Nurse Clinician experience preferred. Post graduate breastfeeding teaching and support preferred. Degree in nursing is preferred. Proficiency with adult/peds inpatients Connect Care preferred. Education in change management preferred. Completion of AHS Breast feeding modules.
