Job Overview The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full time Guard to join our team of professionals in the RCMP Division, Police Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Business Support Police Services, in this unionized position you will perform custodial work involving responsibility for guarding prisoners held at the Langley Detachment.

Responsibilities

- Maintain surveillance over prisoner activities to ensure safety and security
- Search and inspect cells before and after prisoner occupancy
- Assist officers or Deputy Sheriffs during the arrival and departure of prisoners
- Take fingerprints and photographs of prisoners and members of the public
- Maintain the security of prisoner’s property and arrange for dispatch of property left behind
- Monitor cleaning by janitors, sweep, mop, hose and disinfect cells, and immediate areas
- Maintain a variety of files, records, and the prisoner logbook
- Assist members in processing prisoners, as required
- Perform related duties as required

Qualifications

- Completion of Grade 12, and some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Sound knowledge of the policies, practices, methods, and procedures related to the control, custody, escorting and welfare of prisoners




- Sound knowledge of techniques used for taking fingerprints and photographs
- Ability to understand and respond to prisoners' needs while communicating with firmness, discretion, and compassion
- Ability to assess and respond appropriately to individuals experiencing mental, physical, or emotional distress
- BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License is considered an asset

RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status is required (not required as part of the application process, however, will be required upon consideration for employment)

- Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR C and AED Certification
