About the Role

Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute is looking for a patient, responsible, and supportive After-School Tutor to work with elementary and middle school students during our after-school program.

This position is focused on providing students with structured academic support after school. You will help students complete homework, read regularly, build vocabulary, stay organized, and develop better independent study habits.

This is a great opportunity for university students, recent graduates, aspiring teachers, or anyone who enjoys working with children and would like to gain more experience in education.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise students during the after-school study period

Help students complete their school homework and assignments

Read books and age-appropriate texts with students

Encourage students to read independently on a regular basis

Help students understand unfamiliar words and use dictionaries or other appropriate resources to check vocabulary

Support basic reading comprehension and vocabulary development

Review students’ completed homework for accuracy and completeness

Help students understand assignment instructions before they begin working

Guide students when they are stuck without simply giving them the answers

Help students organize their homework, worksheets, books, and school materials

Encourage students to write down homework and upcoming tasks

Support students in developing good study habits, time management, and independence

Keep students focused and maintain a calm and productive study environment

Communicate any important academic or behavioural concerns to U-Tutoring staff

Typical Daily Tasks A typical after-school session may include:

Checking what homework the student needs to complete

Helping the student organize tasks by priority

Supporting homework completion

Checking completed work





Reading with the student

Looking up and reviewing unfamiliar vocabulary

Helping with basic spelling, reading comprehension, or writing when needed

Making sure the student records unfinished homework or tasks before leaving

Qualifications

Ideal candidates should have

Strong English communication skills

Good basic knowledge of elementary and/or middle school subjects

Solid reading and writing skills

Patience when working with children

Ability to explain ideas clearly and simply

Good organization and time-management skills

Reliability and punctuality

Ability to keep students focused while maintaining a positive environment

Comfortable helping students use dictionaries, textbooks, worksheets, and online learning resources

Previous tutoring, teaching, childcare, camp, mentoring, or volunteer experience is an asset, but not required.

Work Environment

This is an in-person after-school position at Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute.

Most shifts will take place on weekday afternoons and early evenings, depending on student enrollment and program schedules.

Compensation
