We are currently looking for ASL Interpreters for a variety of academic disciplines. Candidates will be expected to attend in person classes at university/colleges in Mississauga and surrounding regions. These service providers help students overcome barriers in class to succeed!
Responsibilities: 1. Provide interpreting and transliteration services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students, faculty, and staff in academic and non-academic settings, including classrooms, meetings, events, and activities, as requested by the university or college.
- Follow ethical standards of the profession, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to the university or college's policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of interpreting services provided, including timesheets, invoices, and other necessary documentation.
- Attend required meetings and trainings, as specified by the university or college.
- Maintain professional development by staying current with new developments and advancements in the field of ASL interpretation.
Qualifications: 1. An active member of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI).
- Minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited program.
- Ability to match the diverse language use of consumers. 4.
Experience with ASL Interpretation in an academic environment.
- Sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities.
- Ability to analyze and process information quickly.
- Able to work independently, be punctual, dependable, and meet deadlines. We require a minimum commitment of one academic semester. Assignments vary depending on the student’s schedules and typically take place between 8am – 9pm, Monday to Saturday.
