NATURE OF WORK

Reporting to the Director of Higher Learning, the Coordinator of iiyiyiu iinuu Teacher Training Program manages the operations, programs and activities pertaining to support of the Cree School Board (CSB) mission, vision and goals.

In particular, the Coordinator is responsible for researching, developing, coordinating, planning, supervising and evaluating policies, programs and activities related to teaching training programs (including Cree Culture and Cree Literary Certification) as well as certification and qualification programs for teachers of the Cree School Board. The Coordinator also contributes to the development and implementation of strategy and program alignment and provide expertise and advice when required.

The Coordinator leads by example, fosters a spirit of teamwork, engages employees and facilitates a workplace culture in keeping with the CSB organizational values.

CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS

This position comprises the following responsibilities:

- Collaborate with Director in the development and execution of the annual departmental action plan.
- Support the Director in the development and monitoring of departmental strategies, objectives, policies and programs. Identify opportunities for adjustment, as required.
- Contribute to the preparation of the departmental budget and monitor the budget of select operations/ projects.
- Participate in the development and implementation of up-to-date efficient and effective systems,



databases/ files that respond to the needs of the department while supporting the overall organization and ensuring alignment with legal and governance requirements.
- Participate in the development, implementation of departmental processes, internal procedures and policies and ensure monitoring as well as compliance in line with key performance measures.
- Coordinate the preparation and analysis of select reports and circulate, as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain effective communications and relations within his/her sector, across the CSB and with external stakeholders.

Role-specific Responsibilities

- Lead the development of the iiyiyiu iinuu teacher training strategy for the CSB in order to meet staffing needs and academic/ organizational goals. Monitor and update on a regular basis.
- Develop, coordinate and implement training calendar.
- Develop materials and deliver internal training as required.
- Collaborate with the academic institutions in the development and implementation of formal teaching certification programs such as the Certificate in First Nations Education - Language and Culture and Bachelor of Education programs, graduate programs and all other newly developed programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

- Participate in resource selection and allocation.
- Ensure supervision, coaching and professional development of all team members.




- Establish work priorities and resource requirements for the department.
- Pursue own professional development in order to enhance personal and organizational capacity and the changing needs of the organization.
- Participate in the technical work of department as required.
- Represent department, as required.
- Any other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s of Education required.
- Master’s in Education is an asset.
- A permanent teaching permit issued by the Minister of Education (Brevet).
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Bilingual - Cree and English.
- Knowledge of French would be an asset.
- Strong technical knowledge in the relevant areas of Education / Education Services.
- Solid leadership skills with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to Build Trust.
- Solid planning and organization skills.
- Knowledge of Cree worldview. Must be able to create programs that are culturally relevant to the Cree milieu.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across all levels and functions of the Cree School Board and to develop solid organizational knowledge and relationships.
- Results oriented with problem solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage change.
- Ability to build personal and organizational capacity through continuous improvement.
- Ability to promote teamwork within and across departments.
- Ability to handle confidential information and sensitive situations appropriately.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Travel required

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS*

Regular, Full-time position

35 hrs/week
