COR SV 18R (Growth) - Youth Correctional Officer - (125577) Posting Title COR SV 18R (Growth) - Youth Correctional Officer On-Site 39.40 - $47.45 hourly (Growth), plus a 3 Grid Market Adjustment for Growth Series, plus a 4 Grid Market Adjustment at the full working level Temporary End Date Ministry/Organization BC Public Service - Children & Family Development Ministry Branch / Division Youth Justice and Forensic Psychiatric Services Youth Correction Officers at Burnaby Youth Custody Services are a dedicated and supportive group of 67 Officers structured into 8 teams, each led by a Senior Youth Correction Officer. They collaborate closely with internal teams and community partners, including Youth Probation Officers, Youth Mental Health, Chaplains, and Elders. Using a trauma informed approach the team ensures safety and consistency for youth in custody addressing their complex needs while enabling public safety.

Youth Correction

Officers play a critical role in maintaining public safety, as well as the safety of youth and staff in a custodial setting. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to build a positive relationship with youth, helping them develop socially appropriate behaviors, boost self esteem, and improve decision making abilities. It also provides the chance for personal growth, allowing you to develop valuable skills in communication, conflict resolution, mediation, and advocacy.

High School

Diploma or equivalent (GED). Must possess and continue to maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence. Must be a Canadian Citizen or have Permanent Residency Status. *Related experience may include working with adolescents or with a vulnerable adult population. Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., social work, childcare, psychology, sociology, criminology, etc.).

MEDICAL: A Tuberculosis (TB)



test prior to booking an appointment for a Medical Assessment. Successful completion of a Medical Assessment. Must be able to control hostile and dangerous behaviour, requiring maturity and self-awareness.

Must undergo enhanced security screening and a medical examination. Must have successfully completed and passed the Physical Fitness Abilities Test (COPAT) within the last 6 months. Must be willing and able to travel.

Must be willing and able to work shift work, including evenings, weekends and holidays within a 24/7 operation. This is an As and When, shift coverage position for a term of approximately one (1) year. Biweekly hours will vary depending on shift availability Monday through Sunday.

As the custody centre is a 24 hour operation, successful applicant(s) will be required to work evenings/weekends and a variety of shifts on an as and when required basis. A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
